Powder rooms are the perfect place to WOW people.
This client was referred by her neighbor — whose powder room we had also designed. She came in, sat down, and said with a smile: 'I want mine to be better than their's.'
Now that is a challenge I will gladly take on!
See what was here before. A builder-grade half bath. Pedestal sink. Basic mirror. Beige everything.
and what we proposed.
Then admire what built.
Full color drench in deep green/blue — walls, doors, millwork, trim. Every surface. A chunky stone sink on brass console legs. An arched backlit mirror. Wall-mount gold faucet.
Same four walls. Same square footage. Completely unrecognizable.
This is why I love powder rooms. They're the smallest space in the house — and because of that, you can take the biggest design risks. Nobody lives in here. Let it be extraordinary.

Some things you just have to see to believe.
Excuse the pajamas and the naked face — but when a teaching moment hits, you have to take it. I have this conversation with clients all the time — sconces and lighted mirrors give you the most beautiful, even light. But if you want more, can lights absolutely have a place… as long as they're on a separate switch. They serve completely different purposes, and once you see the difference side by side, you'll never think about bathroom lighting the same way.

A raised bar top- 42" that defines the space. For better or for worse.
From the living room you couldn't see the kitchen. From the kitchen you felt closed in. The bar stools faced a wall. The whole open floor plan concept was being blocked by one design decision made in 1995.
We're changing that.
Slide 2 is what this kitchen looks like in the 3D render — single level peninsula, full sight line, sage cabinets, marble countertop, warm hardwood floors.
Same footprint. Completely different life.

Cabinet hardware is the jewelry of a room. And like jewelry, it can make or break the whole look. Here's what to know before you order.
FINISH FIRST: Pick your hardware finish before anything else. Then buy ALL of it at once. Mixing brass from two different manufacturers sounds subtle. It isn't.
K***S VS PULLS: K***s on doors. Pulls on drawers. It's not a rule — but it's a starting point that works in almost every kitchen and bathroom.
SIZE MATTERS: Hardware should be proportional to the cabinet door. A 3" pull on a 24" drawer looks like an afterthought. A 5" pull on a 9" door looks overwhelming.
CONSISTENCY IS EVERYTHING: Notice how both of these spaces carry the same gold finish through every single touchpoint — faucets, pulls, k***s, light fixtures, mirrors. That's not an accident. That's a decision made at the planning stage.

This primary bathroom was designed specifically for aging in place — without looking like it.
Roll-in curbless shower. Grab bars integrated into the tile design. Wide doorway to the water closet. A linen tower that adds storage without crowding the space.
Every accessibility feature was planned from the very beginning — not added as an afterthought. That's the difference between a bathroom that functions for five years and one that functions for life.
This is one of my favorite kinds of projects. Because good design should work for you at every stage.

That island you love on Pinterest might be too big for your kitchen. Here's how to know.
The rule most designers use: minimum 42 inches of clearance on all walkway sides. 48 inches if two people cook together.
But clearance is just the start. You also need to consider:
→ How many people regularly move through the space
→ Where the dishwasher, oven, and refrigerator doors swing
→ Whether the island creates a traffic jam between the kitchen and living space
→ The visual weight relative to ceiling height and room size
This island works because the space supports it — generous square footage, high ceilings, and an open sight line through the beam.
Same island in a smaller kitchen? It would own the room in all the wrong ways.
We test every island in 3D before anything is built. Because fixing it on screen is free. Fixing it mid-construction is not.

This client came in with a very clear wish list.
More storage — specifically somewhere to put the vacuums and brooms without looking at them every day. A space that actually functioned. And something that made her smile every time she walked in.
That last one is my favorite kind of brief.
We tucked the vacuums and brooms into a tall cabinet on the left — and here's the detail most people miss — that blind corner space next to the washer? Still fully accessible through the cabinet door. Not a single inch wasted.
Then we added hot glass tile and lighted shelves for the bling and pizazz she asked for.
Same square footage. Completely different life.

The doors. Do you paint them or not? 👇
Same bathroom. Same olive green walls. Same vanity, same tile, same gold hardware.
The only difference? In option one the doors go full color drench — painted to match the walls. In option two they stay white and let the walls do the work alone.
This is called color drenching — and it's one of the biggest bathroom trends right now. When you paint the walls, trim, and doors all the same color it makes a space feel intentional, immersive and honestly a little luxurious.
But it's also a big commitment.

The kitchen work triangle is outdated. Here's what actually matters now.
You've probably heard of it — the idea that your sink, stove, and refrigerator should form a triangle for maximum efficiency. It made sense in the 1940s when one person cooked alone in a closed kitchen.
But that's not how most of us live anymore.
Open floor plans. Multiple cooks. Kids doing homework at the island. Someone always standing in front of the refrigerator while you're trying to get to the stove.
The triangle doesn't account for any of that.
What we focus on instead:
→ Work zones — prep, cooking, cleanup, and storage as separate dedicated areas
→ Traffic flow — where do people walk through the kitchen, and does it cross your prep space?
→ The landing zone — counter space immediately next to every appliance
→ The gathering zone — because someone is always going to hang out in your kitchen whether you planned for it or not
A well-planned kitchen feels effortless to cook in. A poorly planned one feels frustrating no matter how beautiful it looks.
Take this kitchen — the island handles prep and cleanup, the perimeter wall handles cooking, there's a big walk in pantry in the back corner, and there's still room for four people to sit and hang out. Every zone has a job. Nothing competes.
