Happy Wednesday, everyone! A few recent projects to share from the Handy Andy world.

First up, I installed this fancy light and fan combo. You get functionality and some serious style all in one package. Honestly, why choose between looking good and staying cool when you can have both?

Next, a new hose bibb! With these triple-digit Texas temperatures, the plants are out there fighting for their lives too. 🌱🄵 Stay cool, drink plenty of water, and don’t forget about your gardens and plants!

In the shower, I installed grab bars because slips can happen to anyone. A little extra support can go a long way, and I’d rather install one before someone needs it than after they find out the hard way that tile doesn’t care about your balance.

And lastly, another ceiling fan! Can you really ever have enough breeze in Texas? As this heat continues to cook us hotter than a brisket, I’m voting for all the fans.

Stay cool out there, friends!

Hope everyone is having a great weekend! ā˜€ļøMeanwhile, here in Texas, we’re continuing our annual tradition of cooking ou...

Hope everyone is having a great weekend! ā˜€ļø

Meanwhile, here in Texas, we’re continuing our annual tradition of cooking outside because it’s too dang hot to turn on the oven. šŸ˜‚šŸ”„

A few recent jobs I wanted to share:

Fan + TV install
This fan was going where there was originally no electrical box and absolutely no bracing. There was wiring there for a simple light, but a fan is a whole different animal. Added the proper bracing and support, then got the fan installed and ready to move some air.

Outdoor TV on brick
Mounted this TV on an exterior brick wall, and I have to say, this is going to be a pretty sweet spot to hang out once the temperatures decide to stop trying to kill us. šŸ˜‚ Grab a drink, turn on the game, and enjoy the outdoors without actually having to look at the outdoors the whole time.

Kitchen light upgrade
Out with the old shop light and in with something a little more… fancy. šŸ˜Ž We also added a dimmer so they can go from ā€œI need to see what I’m cookingā€ to ā€œlet’s set the moodā€ with the slide of a switch.

And yes… more fans.
Because apparently, Texas has decided air movement is now a basic necessity. šŸ˜‚

And finally, more shelving!
The upper shelf was installed a while back, but the lower builder-grade MDF shelf had seen better days and was damaged. I cut and painted a new shelf to match, then installed it to give everything a fresh, clean finish.

Different jobs, different challenges, but that’s what keeps things interesting!

If something around your house needs fixing, upgrading, mounting, or just needs to stop looking like the builder gave up halfway through… send Handy Andy a message. šŸ˜Ž

🚨 Handy Andy PSA! 🚨

A quick tip that could save you a lot of headaches (and money).

I don’t offer warranties on plumbing fixtures or ceiling fans purchased from Amazon or other off brands. Over the years, I’ve seen far too many quality control issues with these products. While some work just fine, I’ve had enough failures that I simply can’t stand behind them (only my work).

If you’re trying to stay on a budget, I completely understand. Instead of Amazon, I’d recommend checking out Home Depot or Lowe’s. They both carry affordable faucets, shower fixtures, and ceiling fans that are generally much more reliable, and if there is an issue, returns and warranty claims are usually much easier.

Sometimes spending just a little more upfront can save you from paying twice for installation.

As always, if you’re not sure what to buy, feel free to ask before you purchase. I’m happy to point you toward products that have treated my customers well over the years.

A few more projects from this week! šŸ”§

That light fixture didn’t just ā€œfall.ā€ The wrong ceiling brace was installed, and it simply wasn’t designed to support the weight. I replaced it with a heavy-duty steel brace rated for up to 50 pounds, so it’s now safe and secure.

Ceiling fan season is always in full swing! I installed a few different styles this week, and they all turned out great. Whether you’re after modern, farmhouse, or something in between, there’s a fan to fit your home. Just remember, it’s not all about looks. Proper size, placement, and airflow make a huge difference in keeping your home comfortable.

Grab bars aren’t just for seniors! They should honestly be standard in every home. Wet tile doesn’t care how old you are. A well-placed grab bar can prevent a nasty fall, and they come in styles that look great while adding peace of mind.

And finally… don’t forget your A/C filter! The last photo shows one that had definitely seen better days. A dirty filter makes your system work harder, reduces airflow, and can shorten the life of your HVAC system. It’s one of the easiest and cheapest maintenance items you can do to help keep your home comfortable.

Happy almost 4th of July! šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡øšŸŽ†
Nothing says ā€œready for Independence Dayā€ like a fresh American flag flying proudly. It was an honor helping this homeowner (fellow Navy veteran) install a brand-new flag just in time for the holiday. šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡ø

A couple more projects from this week:

More storage = happier homeowners!
Added a new shelf in a closet to make better use of all that vertical space, plus another shelf in the pantry because somehow snacks and Costco runs always seem to multiply. A little extra shelving goes a long way!

A not-so-pretty reminder…
That last photo isn’t winning any beauty contests, but it’s an important one. This PVC drain was completely clogged, and the A/C condensate line draining into it had nowhere to go. When these lines back up, they can lead to water damage, overflowing drain pans, or even cause your A/C to shut down if it has a safety switch.

It’s one of those ā€œout of sight, out of mindā€ items until it becomes an expensive surprise. If you have a condensate drain tied into a PVC line like this, it’s worth checking every now and then to make sure water is flowing freely.

Hope everyone has a safe, fun, and relaxing Independence Day! Thank you to all who have served and continue to serve our country. šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡ø

Wishing everyone a happy Wednesday! It’s hump day! 🐪

We’ve been keeping busy over here.

First up, a little exterior trim repair. Water found its way into the original wood trim at the base of this post and caused it to rot. I removed all the damaged trim and replaced it with textured PVC, then gave it a fresh coat of paint. The best part? PVC won’t rot, so this repair should stand the test of time. It’ll still need the occasional paint touch-up, but no more worries about water damage.

Next was some electrical work. We hung this beautiful oversized light fixture. Mounting the fixture itself was pretty straightforward. Hanging the hundreds (and I mean hundreds šŸ˜‚) of tiny shell-like discs? Not so much. It took some patience, but the finished look was worth every minute. We also swapped out a few bathroom fixtures for some more modern lighting to give the space a fresh updated feel.

Lastly, we added some cabinets to a laundry room. One of the easiest ways to make a space feel cleaner is to give all those detergents, cleaners, and miscellaneous items a place to hide. Out of sight, out of mind!

And of course… another shelf. I know, I know, you’re all shocked. šŸ˜† This one included a metal dowel rod to match the existing closet hardware and create even more usable storage space. Around here, we’re big believers in making every inch count!

Hope everyone has a fantastic rest of the week!

Hope everyone is having an amazing Fri-yay! 🤠 Here are a few recent projects we’ve knocked out around town.

First up, we added shelving to this laundry room. A new little one joined the family, which means storage space suddenly becomes prime real estate! We also added some smaller shelf extensions in the pantry to help organize those tiny items that always seem to disappear. Every inch counts!

Next, we replaced SIXTEEN flush-mount lights throughout a home. The old fixtures were failing and the covers had reached the point where they were more interested in falling off than staying attached. The new fixtures gave the home a nice little upgrade! Bonus: the lights I supply allow you to select different color temperatures, from warm and cozy to bright daylight, so you can choose the atmosphere that fits your home best.

We also replaced multiple GFCI outlets in another home. Some had completely failed, while others showed signs of overheating and burning. Yikes! Definitely one of those things that’s better to catch before it becomes a bigger problem.

Lastly, I already shared the cabinet installation from this project, but the homeowner decided to take it one step further and add a black floating shelf underneath. Cut, painted, installed… chef’s kiss šŸ‘Øā€šŸ³šŸ‘Œ Sometimes it’s the finishing touches that really bring everything together.

As always, thank you for trusting Handy Andy with your homes, projects, and growing to-do lists. Have a fantastic weekend

This Memorial Day, we remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

Today is not just about a day off or the start of summer. It is about remembering those who never made it home, the families who carry their memory, and the sacrifices made so we can live the lives we do today.

Saturday morning, friends, neighbors, and I took part in a Memorial Day run as a small way to honor and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Every step served as a reminder that the freedoms we enjoy came at a cost paid by heroes who gave everything.

Freedom has never been free, and today we pause in gratitude for those who gave all in its defense.

From Handy Andy Home, thank you to our fallen heroes. Your sacrifice will never be forgotten. šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡ø

Hope everyone had a wonderful week! We’ve been keeping busy over here, so we’re a little behind on sharing projects, but here are a few recent upgrades to get those home improvement ideas flowing.

First up, these beautiful accent walls. Not only do they add a clean, high-end look to a space, but they also help reduce echo and improve sound dampening. So if your home sounds like you’re hosting a basketball game in the living room every time someone talks… this may be your answer. šŸ˜„

Next was cabinet hardware installation. One of those small changes that makes a surprisingly BIG difference. As we always say, looks matter, but functionality matters too. When you get both working together, that’s the sweet spot. Clean, practical, and makes everyday use feel just a little more satisfying.

Lastly, this hose spigot officially bit the dust after the vacuum break stopped doing its job. We replaced everything with brand new parts including the spigot, vacuum break, escutcheon plate, and insulation to get it back in top shape.

We also installed these sweet pull-out drawers to help turn wasted cabinet space into usable storage. Because digging through the back of cabinets looking for things should count as cardio at this point. šŸ˜‚

Always appreciate everyone following along and supporting Handy Andy! More projects coming soon.

Another home, another glow-up. This time we’re shedding some light on a few upgrades. Literally.

First up, this home had a 6’ moveable light that the homeowners strongly disliked… and I’ll be honest, I don’t blame them. Thing could’ve doubled as an interrogation lamp. šŸ˜…
We removed it, installed a conversion kit with a clean medallion, and set up a new fixture paired with a dimmer switch. Now the lighting actually works with the space. Perfect for highlighting the artwork without feeling like you’re on stage.

Next, we swapped out a builder-grade dining light for this sharp multi-globe fixture. Big difference here. Softer, more inviting light and about 100x better on the eyes and the room. Amazing what the right fixture can do for a space you use every day.

And finally, we added a sleek new fixture to the home’s chill zone. This room was already looking great, but this was that final piece that ties everything together. Like the cherry on top, if cherries gave off perfect lighting. šŸ’šŸ’”

If your lighting is still stuck in the ā€œwhy is this so aggressive?ā€ phase, you know who to call.

Howdy everyone! 🤠

While I usually tackle smaller projects, this one was a full home glow-up focused on one thing… making space actually usable.

Round one: laundry area upgrade 🧺
We assembled a new storage cabinet, built a custom table over the washer and dryer (because folding clothes on top of a dryer doing the cha-cha isn’t ideal), added an upper cabinet for extra storage, and finished it off with a dowel rod for hanging clothes… or getting a quick set of pull-ups in šŸ’ŖšŸ˜‚

Round two: luggage command center āœˆļø
Installed heavy-duty floating shelves for some well-traveled homeowners. These were spaced out to handle their largest luggage and built strong enough to hold some serious weight… tested and approved with yours truly as the guinea pig.

Final round: entryway upgrade šŸ‘‹
Wrapped it up with a custom coat hanger setup, another cabinet for storage, and a bench to make coming and going just a little more comfortable.

Another home, a lot more function, and no wasted space left behind.

If you’ve got areas in your home that should be useful but just aren’t… you know who to call šŸ˜‰
