Good afternoon Central Texas!

This is your local Plumbing & HVAC team reaching out to provide some pointers with this bizarre wind we're having lately!

Plumbing Precautions:
· Secure Outdoor Pipes & Hoses – Disconnect and store garden hoses. Cover exposed pipes to prevent them from breaking due to flying debris.
· Check for Leaks – Wind can put pressure on plumbing fixtures. Inspect for leaks before and after a storm.
· Protect Sump Pump Discharge – Ensure the sump pump discharge line is secured so it doesn’t get blown away or blocked.
· Shut Off Water If Necessary – If there's a risk of damage, consider shutting off the main water supply to avoid flooding.

HVAC Precautions:
· Secure the Outdoor Unit – Make sure your AC or heat pump is bolted down and free from loose debris.
· Turn Off the HVAC System – Strong winds can bring debris into the system, so shutting it down can prevent damage.
· Cover the Unit (If Safe to Do So) – Use a manufacturer-approved cover or a weighted tarp to protect it from debris.
· Check and Clear Vents – Ensure no debris or obstructions are blocking airflow in vents or exhaust pipes.
· Inspect After the Storm – Once the wind dies down, check for any visible damage, debris buildup, or unusual noises when turning the system back on.

After all this wind has passed, if you notice any damage to your home regarding Plumbing or HVAC - you know who to call!

Good afternoon Central Texas!

It's been a minute since we've last posted. I hope that y'all stayed warm during the winter season! Spring is just around the corner and the last thing that we would want is for you to worry about the harsh Texas heat during the summer! We've provided a few pointers to prepare yourselves for the season to come:

Plumbing Maintenance:
• Check for leaks - Take a look around your faucets, pipes, and outdoor hose bibs for any leaks that may have developed over the winter.
• Test Sump Pump - If you have one, test it to make sure it's functioning properly to prevent flooding during the spring rains.
• Clear drains - Clean your slow drains and use a drain cleaner if necessary to prevent clogs.
• Inspect your toilets - Check for running toilets and replace the flappers or fill valves if needed.
• Sewer line issues - If you've had any sewer backups in the last few months, you may want to have a professional inspection to ensure breaks/cracks and/or bellies haven't formed.

HVAC Maintenance:
• Replace Air Filters - Change HVAC filters to improve airflow and efficiency.
• Clean Air Vents & Ducts - Vacuum and dust any vents to improve indoor air quality.
• Test the AC system - Turn on your air conditioner to ensure it's working before the heat fully sets in. I'm sure we've all done this already since last week we were in the 80's!
• Clean the outdoor unit - Remove debris, leaves, and dirt from around the AC condenser unit.
• Check refrigerant levels - Have a professional inspect refrigerant levels and recharge if necessary.
• Inspect and clean the condensate drain line - Flush the drain line to prevent clogs and biological growth. You can do this by turning off the HVAC and pouring a cup of white vinegar into the drain line's access point. We recommend to let it sit for about 30 minutes, then flushing it out with water. You may have seen or heard that you can also do this with bleach. We don't recommend this due to the fact that it can corrode the metal components of your AC, particularly the evaporator coil - since it's located close to the drain line.
• Lastly, we recommend having an HVAC technician perform a tune-up to optimize performance.

Regular maintenance can prevent costly repairs and improve efficiency, saving you money in the long run. These recommendations are all something we tackle during regular inspection/maintenance. Feel free to contact us anytime to schedule a professional technician to have your systems checked out!
