Concrete science rules 😎

Behind every great concrete mix at Lauren Concrete is a team of quality technicians putting it to the test. When they’re not making cylinders in the field, they’re in the lab testing and perfecting our standard and specialty mixes to ensure they are reproducible, reliable, and resilient. 💪

It’s another and this week we are giving a nod to our longtime partners and friends at Chasco Constructors — a relationship that began in the early days of Lauren Concrete and helped shape who we are today.

Chaz Glace founded Chasco in 1979, fulfilling a lifelong dream of owning his own company. Starting with small concrete jobs throughout Central Texas, Chaz built the business alongside his two sons, Chuck and Tony, teaching them the industry from the ground up.

Just a year after Lauren Concrete was founded, Chuck Glace crossed paths with Ronnie Klatt at an AGC event in 1987 — the beginning of a friendship and partnership that would span decades.

“At the time, Ronnie did not have enough trucks to service Chasco, but over the years Ronnie and I became close friends,” said Chuck Glace, now President of Chasco Constructors.

Chuck recalls watching Ronnie batch and drive during the day, then work on trucks late into the night alongside his brother, Ray — doing whatever it took to keep the business moving forward.

“As his company grew, he got to the point where he could service Chasco, and around 1997 we started using Lauren Concrete and we have been partners ever since,” said Glace.

That partnership marked the beginning of steady sidewalk and residential concrete work for Lauren Concrete, while also laying the foundation for a friendship that would help shape both companies for years to come — Chasco growing into a full-service general contractor and Lauren Concrete expanding its reach and scope to commercial work. Today, Lauren Concrete and Chasco have partnered together on big projects such as the Texas A&M Health Science Center and Kalahari Resorts Waterpark in Round Rock, and the Q2 Stadium in Austin, home of Austin FC.

“As Chasco grew, Lauren grew, and it’s been a great partnership between the two of us,” said Glace.

Another Mixer Rodeo for the books! 🤠

Our competitors faced a tough challenge course on Saturday at our 2nd Annual Lauren Concrete Mixer Rodeo, with three coming out on top to snag a medal and a chance to go to the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association Mixer Rodeo Championships in Nashville in the Fall.

🏆 Gold – Ryan Moreno (Round Rock, TX)
🏆 Silver – Quint Mantey – "Q" (Brenham, TX)
🏆 Bronze – Cody Lindemann – "Codeman" (La Grange, TX)

Fun fact: Cody won second place last year!

Congratulations to our winners and thank you to everyone that joined us for the fun. Families of the competitors mentioned they especially enjoyed the experience because it's not every day they get to actually see their loved one in their element, driving a mixer truck.

A special shoutout to our volunteers, Chasco Constructors, TRP Construction Group, Berry Cool Snow Cones, Centex Rentals, Centex Jump & Party Rentals and Kelly Reeves Stadium for helping make the day a success!

Until next year 😎

highlighting some of our milestone projects in honor of Lauren Concrete’s 40th Anniversary in July – starting with one of our first large jobs, the US-183 Viaduct in Austin, TX.

Construction began on this 4.5-mile long segmental structure in the early 1990’s, set to connect IH-35 to Loop 1. EBY Construction tasked Lauren Concrete with providing concrete for the precast segments, which were poured on-site at our plant, situated on a quarry near the airport. The segments were then trucked to the job, where a special hydraulic lift system built by Somerset Engineering – called the “Texas Lifter”– unloaded and placed a total of 3,000 segments to complete the viaduct in 1996.

Because of the success of this project, Lauren Concrete was able to purchase 40 acres of land in Round Rock and continue to grow our reach in Central Texas.

is one of our Core Values and an essential part of who we are and how we operate. In addition to respecting the men and women we work with every day, it means empowering each other to speak up when something looks wrong, and following safety plans on job sites to avoid incidents and keep people safe.

is something we practice here at Lauren Concrete every day, especially when operating on catwalks at the plant or getting in and out of our trucks.

Falls are one of the leading causes of fatalities and injuries in our industry. On any given day it can be: Did it rain – is the ladder wet? Are we using three points of contact when climbing? Did mud get caked on our boots, making it more likely to slip?

It is important to identify areas and conditions that could make falls more likely, slow down, and think. Nothing is more important than your safety and the safety of those around you.
