Blades & Shades: Our Story

Blades and Shades was started from a dream, hard work and dedication by Luke Cowen, a little over 10 years ago. Luke had been working with another landscaping business and quickly found himself liking what he was doing. After two years he left that company and began to maintain yards in his neighborhood during his spare time. What began as an opportunity for extra side income soon developed into a budding business and later became what it is today. When he first began maintaining lawns on his own, Luke operated out of his car, putting his equipment in the trunk. And while this might have looked comical, Luke was dedicated to growing the business and making a difference in people’s lives via the landscapes surrounding their homes.

Fast forward to five years ago, the Blades and Shades name was born. The concept behind the name was simple, to offer high quality personalized landscaping services which would encompass both the desires of the customers and the requirements of their landscapes. Blades would represent the curb appeal of the yard from regular yard maintenance all the way to flowerbed reclamation, shrub and light tree trimming. Shades would represent the larger projects that might arise to further enhance the curb appeal already being sought. This would include fence repair and replacement, new landscape designing, decks and larger tree trimming projects.

Within the past five years the business has grown to service a large base of residential sites and now partners with remodelers, property managers, real estate investors and realtors. We currently serve the majority of Austin and the northern suburbs, including Pflugerville, Round Rock, Hutto and Cedar Park. We are constantly adding new clients and looking to continue our growth so if you don’t see your area listed don’t worry, if it’s in our power, we will do our best to accommodate your yard and family. We offer free estimates and will take the time to talk to you at length to learn what services will best serve you, your family and your landscape.
