Electrical repairs after these recent rain and wind storms will require licensed electrical contractors & may require electrical permits. Power companies will perform repairs to electrical transformers & some lines but some repairs may fall to property owners because the damage is at their side of the powerline. Do not hire unlicensed electricians to perform this important repair. Check the TDLR website (www.tdlr.texas.gov) & make sure the contractor has gotten any required city or county electrical permit BEFORE any work begins. Never pay upfront for all the work you’ve agreed to have done!

Texas is known for a variety of reasons; water parks and swimming pools being just two of them.
As the warmer weather approaches, swimming pools across the state will be reopening for the season. It is important that you don’t overlook routine maintenance and inspections, especially where electrical systems are present.

Electricity and a wet body are a recipe for disaster! That’s why all swimming pools and spas are required to have GFCI protection and proper equipotential bonding. Yet there are still electrical injuries and fatalities occurring every year.

These accidents happen for a variety of reasons:

Installations are not up to the current codes and standards.

GFCIs are not tested periodically as required by the manufacturers.

Corroded, neglected or improper bonding terminations.

Electrical Equipment Failure.

High neutral-to-earth voltage.

Most of these conditions can be detected by routine inspection(s) and addressed by a qualified person such as a licensed electrician.

If you have any doubts that your equipment is safe, please reach out to us for an on site inspection. DeMeter & Associates Electric

Generators can be useful should an outage occur, but they can be dangerous if used improperly. Follow these tips from our friends at Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFI) to safely operate a generator.

Get your backup generator installed right!

I seldom post anything that has the remote potential of inducing fear or distrust. This post is really about preparedness, not about fear!
It is true that the auto market is shifting to electrical. This means that the electrical grid will continue to see more and more stress. Just imagine that a Tesla has a battery capacity of 100 KW. To equate this in layman terms, when you buy a Tesla model S, is the same thing (for the electrical grid) as you purchased about 100 microwave ovens, or 75 fridges.
It is also true that in the last 30 years, the electrical grid has not seen any major investments in the conventional energy; subsidies and government programs investing heavily in renewable energy whilst the conventional power plants were left to rust and dilapidation.

Punch line: there will be electrical power shortages! Not because ERCOT doesn’t care, but because the power grid is overwhelmed by the new increased demand.

A backup generator is a must!
If you consider preparing for the outages, do yourself a favor and do not put your property, your life, and other people lives in danger by installing it yourself!

It is not only wrong, but is illegal too.
If you consider a backup generator for your residence, feel free to reach out to DeMeter & Associates Electric for an “in house” consultation.
There are so many variables, that I would be very circumspect if someone will give you a quote over text or email without seeing the job first.

A Backup Generator comes in handy during an emergency.
Either you chose to backup certain essential circuits, or the entire house, make sure the person doing the installation is licensed to perform electrical work in Texas.
One way to hook up the generator, is by using a transfer load panel type DPDT.
A DPDT switch ensures the load is correctly isolated from the utility before applying voltage to it.
Another way is to use a UL Listed Generator Breaker interlock.
