Working in our hometown always comes with a sense of nostalgia, but today was a reminder of why we do what we do.

We got a call from the local little league about the baseball field lights not working. This is the same field I played on and the same dugout I sat in nearly 30 years ago.

Being out there at 7 a.m. on a Saturday, watching volunteers get the field ready for the kids, was a full circle moment. It’s a reminder that these places don’t run on their own. They are built and maintained by people who care.

Yesterday we had the privilege of having a booth at the PTAA Greenville Career Day for 2nd year. We had a great time talking with some of the youth about the possible career paths in the electrical field.

Storm just rolled through and now some of your outlets don't work?

Before you panic — or pay for a service call - check your GFCls.

Outlets in kitchens, bathrooms, garages, and outdoors are often protected by a GFCI.

When they trip, every outlet "downstream" loses power too.

Look for an outlet with "Test" and "Reset" buttons. Press reset - if it clicks, you're back in business.

If that doesn't fix it, or it trips again, that's when it's time to call a licensed electrician.

We wrapped up another value call today. A couple of weeks ago, I met Mrs. Marquez at Home Depot. She’s in her 60s and asked if I could help her understand how to wire a GFCI. Turns out, she’s redoing the electrical in her Greenville home because her husband, who normally handled that work, is now dealing with severe medical issues, including brain swelling and kidney failure.

Another contractor quoted her $6,000 for a full solution, but they couldn’t afford even a quarter of that. After visiting her home, I suggested a safer, bare-bones approach: two new 20A bedroom circuits to support incoming dialysis equipment and ease the daily breaker trips. She agreed and we made it happen.

We can’t do this often—but when it feels right, we will. This was one of our most rewarding jobs, even though we lost money on it. Their medical equipment should arrive this week, and now they’re ready for it.

This is what lighting the path to a brighter future looks like.

We had a call this week from a lineman that we’ve worked with in the past about a meter base at a business that had melted 3 meters and was on the verge of having their power shut off.

Upon arrival and discovering the overheated leg, we performed load tests to check for a large load imbalance but found that the lug for the incoming utility line was seized and not making proper contact.

We very rarely use the word “fire” in front of clients because we’re not into scare tactics but this situation warranted the label and the quick installation of a new 320a meter base.
