Andy and I want to wish y’all prosperity & peace in the New Year.

Yes you haven’t seen much of us around Instagram and honestly we nearly closed Fearn this year.

In November of last year (2023) we had a large job we had been working on decide not to pay us after 3 months of working on their project with no payment. They reported us to the California Labor Board and we were investigated for wrongful doings. Long story short, we WON the case. But the fact remained that the over $20,000 bill they still owed us went unpaid & they had 98% of a kitchen + home woodworks completed.

We also found we heavily had to turn into social media influencers and honestly we just wanted to create pretty home decor + cool custom home accents. We found our work suffered trying to constantly pump out content. Content which also didn’t represent us or the work we wanted to create.

Beginning of 2024 we found ourselves finishing up loose ends, and starting and completing our own kitchen, as seen in this picture.

So what does the future hold for Fearn? We’re not sure. We want to be authentic to ourselves + this may take some more time to reconnect with what we’re passionate about.

For those of you who have stuck around and supported us through the years… we thank you!
Here’s to new beginnings!

If you’re looking for an easy way to spruce up your kitchen try a custom range hood.

Range hoods can be customized to fit your style without completely breaking the budget. You can customize the style, the wood, & even the design elements to freshen up your space.

Here we added a small ledge with the option of adding decor to it (or not).

Andy & Niki truly believe reclaimed wood is the truest form of sustainability.

Using materials that would otherwise be discarded or treated with chemicals helps prevent these items from crowding our land fields and / or aiding in bad health.
Reclaimed wood is old growth wood & creates a stronger, more durable build in any design, leading to even further sustainability.

While we use new materials often and know there’s no way to not use them, we also know incorporating reclaimed wood into your design can make a positive impact. If more people embraced this way of design we could help build positive bridges of using new & used materials to create beautiful, functional spaces.

While reclaimed wood can cost more than expect; please remember there is hard work & lots of man hours put into retrieving these materials.

These beautiful cast iron k***s & handles are also a beautiful addition to using sustainable materials that will last a lifetime.
Found these & we love them!!

Looking for reclaimed wood to add into your design? Check out .

We still need to plug the holes but we think they’re looking so good.

We have been updating our kitchen. Modifying existing cabinets, using scrap material from jobs, & FBMP finds to create a modern old world look.

We found these terracotta tiles on FBMP & thought we could stain them to look like the inspiration picture (swipe left).

Fingers crossed it all works out, because our test stains on the floor were hit or miss & I loved both the light and dark stains we created.
Which stain do you prefer?

It’s all taking much longer than anticipated but it will be worth it in the end.

Andy’s currently building a custom reclaimed wood, apothecary style, cabinet in our kitchen, & while we’re not staining the reclaimed wood we will be staining a few other elements in the kitchen.

Our original idea was to use concrete or stone for countertops but our dishwasher decided to quit on us & half our countertop budget had to go to the dishwasher. So, we decided butcher block was the most affordable alternative, but now we are struggling to decide what color stain to use on it to blend with the reclaimed cabinets.

I think we need to try a few more but here’s some pictures of our original test stains.

The first picture is the natural butcher block color. The second pic are a few stains we thought of using. But now we’re contemplating different options like waxes.
What do you think?
