Today, we met with our clients, who were eager to learn all about their new tree, and gave them a guided tour through the finest nursery in southern Arizona.

We helped them find the absolute best tree for their given space, and brought it home! Now, this beautiful Mastic (Lentiscus pistacia) has a wonderful future as the centerpiece of the front yard.

Having your trees sourced and planted properly is the first and most important step to ensuring the vitality of your beloved trees. Improper planting is the beginning of a slowly growing nightmare that leads to an always problematic tree.

This new tree had its roots inspected for discrepancies and corrected. Ensured the root flare was planted at the proper depth, backfilled properly, pruned for structure, irrigation lines installed, staked and mulched; all services that should come standard with any planting service. However, we bet (know in fact) your local nursery doesn't do any of that!

Always love planting new trees! Especially when they’re replacing an unhealthy one. Sometimes a fresh start with a new tree better suited for the space available is a better bet in the long run.

We removed a declining Mesquite that had been struggling for the past ten years to fit this new Mastic. It suits the space beautifully and will provide great shade in a few years.

It looks natural, and you can’t even tell there was an old Mesquite there this morning.

What’s your favorite method of protecting your fruit trees from pests? I’m beginning to think a more “middle-ages” approach might be appropriate.

The mote should be beyond the drip line of course, but AI is gonna AI.

When pruning shrubs, we can approach most of them as we would a tree. We treat each branch individually by making reductions where appropriate. By not hedging or shearing a bush, we prevent the development of epicormic sprouts which cause crowding and excessive die back on the interior over the shrub’s life.

By reducing, we can keep driveways and homes clear of reach, while still maintaining the overall natural form and function that is intended. The before and after photos of this Yellow-bell show how drastic a reduction can be, but still be barely noticeable in the end. We believe that if you can’t tell anything was done, but the pruning goal has been met, that is a win for us and the plant!
