I am starting a project on dad’s backyard with Scott’s ProVista Kentucky Blue Grass. The ability to be able to use glyphosate (roundup) on a cool season lawn is crazy but it would make w**d control much, much simpler. Also the fact that the seed has a built in growth regulator that only allows it to get to a maximum height of 3” is a nice feature so if you go on vacation for a couple weeks, you do t have to worry about making sure someone can mow your lawn. Of course these benefits reflect in the price at $15 per pound. For reference, the seed tag show in the pictures is the best blend of traditional seed blue grass you can get and it was $5 per pound. Got some seed to do some touch ups in the lawn. If you are looking for good quality seed for your lawn, look at the seed tag and get 0.0 w**d seed and 0.0 crop seed. Cheaper seed like Scott's will have a percentage of both of these in them. W**d seed is going to be clover, dandelion, creeping Charlie etc. those can be controlled by a broadleaf herbicide. The other crop seed is anyone's guess what it might be.
Could be POA Annua, POA Trivialis, quackgrass etc. those can really only be controlled by non selective herbicides like round up. The good seed costs a little more but at least your not planting broadleaf and grassy w**ds into your stand of turf. Twin city seed is a fantastic place to order your seed. I ordered it yesterday afternoon and it was on my doorstep in less than 24 hours with free shipping.
Their products are top notch no w**d no crop seeds.

Fall is a magical time for cool season lawns. Perfect time to aerate, de thatch, over seed and fertilize. Fall fertilization helps grow roots and the roots store the nitrogen over the winter to give your lawn a quicker green up in the spring.
