Project Spotlight: Pine Point Solar

A major clean energy milestone has arrived in Pine Point. The community’s school is now powered by a new 500 kW solar array paired with 2,750 kWh of battery storage, providing a dependable energy source year round. During outages, the school can now serve as a safe, powered refuge for Pine Point residents.

The system generates more than enough electricity to meet the school’s needs, and any excess energy is sold back to the local utility—creating a new revenue stream for the community. A key priority for the project was supporting American manufacturing and local labor. The ELM battery units were built in Texas, and the Heliene solar panels were made right here in Minnesota. Several concrete and asphalt components were completed by contractors from the Pine Point area.

This project faced its share of challenges and took years of dedication, but the team’s persistence paid off. Today, Pine Point has a reliable, renewable energy resource that will benefit the community for many years to come.

Project Spotlight: Avivo Village

Avivo Village “St. Cloud” is an indoor community of 48 secure tiny homes providing safe shelter and comprehensive services for adults experiencing unsheltered homelessness. It is the ninth Avivo Village site in Minnesota and offers a dignified, low barrier, COVID aware alternative to outdoor encampments.

Using a Housing First and harm reduction model, the program connects residents with substance use treatment, mental health care, medical services, employment support, and pathways to permanent housing. Staff, service providers, and security are on site 24/7, offering culturally responsive, trauma informed, wraparound support to help residents stabilize and transition successfully into long term housing.

Impact since opening in MN:
• 831 total individuals served since December 2020
• 340 individuals moved on to safe, permanent housing
• 21 babies were born to Avivo Village residents
• 45 veterans served
• 49 pets (35 dogs & 14 cats) have lived with residents
