🔨 8 reasons NOT to hire a general contractor who also leads the framing crew hands-on… 😏
❌ 1. You enjoy playing “Who’s responsible for this?”
I’m the owner, the GC, and the framing foreman. I tried blaming the other guy, but my wife pointed out that all three of us have the same face.
❌ 2. You love elevator music.
Especially while getting transferred three times to answer one question. With us, you call me directly. You’ll have to hum your own hold music. 🎶
❌ 3. You enjoy plot twists.
After 25 years of hands-on framing in custom homes, remodels, and commercial buildings, I’ve learned to spot details in plans that can turn into problems and delays. I’d rather flag them and coordinate solutions with the designer or engineer early.
Apparently, “Let’s figure this out before we build it” ruins the season finale.
❌ 4. You don’t want a GC who speaks fluent blue-collar jobsite talk—in English AND Spanish.
The subs and crews might actually feel comfortable bringing me questions and concerns, big or small. Then we can actually work through them.
I can misunderstand my wife in two languages, but on the jobsite, clear communication matters. 😅
❌ 5. You prefer your contractor to make cameo appearances.
Sorry—I’ll be there with my tool bags on, framing alongside our crew.
You hired a contractor and accidentally got a recurring character.
❌ 6. You think framing is just lumber waiting to disappear.
Framing supports the home and sets the stage for the trades that follow. We give the bones the attention they deserve.
The countertops can have the photo shoot. The framing has to hold the pose.
❌ 7. You prefer discussing changes after the drywall goes up.
We’d rather work through layout, openings, and trade coordination while everything is visible.
“Can we move that?” sounds a lot different when it comes with a demolition soundtrack.
❌ 8. You’d rather the little details stay someone else’s problem.
Measurements, connections, straight walls… I have trouble walking past something that needs attention.
“I’ll just check one more thing” is why my lunch gets cold.
If these sound like terrible qualities in a contractor… we’re probably going to disappoint you. 😅🔨
