**When it comes to concrete, cracking isn’t a matter of *if*—it’s a matter of *where*. 👷‍♂️**

In this project update, Micah explains something homeowners may not realize: **all concrete has the potential to crack.** As concrete cures, shrinks, and responds to changes in temperature and conditions, some cracking is a normal part of the material.

That’s why you’ll see strategically placed **control joints, or cuts, in the concrete.** These cuts create planned weakened areas that help encourage shrinkage cracks to occur in more controlled locations rather than randomly across the surface.

Can we guarantee concrete will never crack? No. But proper preparation, placement, finishing, and control joints can help manage how the concrete performs over time.

It’s another example of why understanding the *why* behind the building process matters.

🏡 **MAJOR PROJECT UPDATE!**

This home is really starting to come together, but as Micah explains in this update, sometimes the building process requires a little patience—especially when you’re building in the **St. George summer heat! ☀️**

The extreme temperatures have created some delays as we prepare for the engineered hardwood flooring. Before the flooring could be installed, the wood needs time to **acclimate to the temperature and humidity inside the home**. With the permanent HVAC not quite ready, we brought in **temporary air conditioning** to create the proper indoor conditions and allow the flooring to acclimate before installation.

Could we rush it? Sure. **But that's not how we build.** Taking the extra time now helps protect the flooring and gives us the quality finished product we're looking for because building a custom home isn’t always about sticking to the fastest timeline—it’s about making the right decisions for the home.

Things are moving fast now though that this delay has been taken care of so follow along as we get closer to the finish line!

**What goes on top of a flat roof matters just as much as what goes underneath it. 🏠**

In this project update, Micah takes us up on the roof to give you a closer look at the materials and process that go into creating a properly finished flat-roof system.

These are the parts of a custom home most people will never see once construction is complete—but they're some of the most important. Proper installation, attention to detail, and using the right materials all play a role in protecting the home for years to come.
