Don't wait for flooding to test your sump pump. Test your sump pump by pouring a bucket of water into the pit, watch the float rise and pump activate, listen for unusual noises, check that water discharges properly away from your home, and test your backup power system. Annual testing before storm season can prevent basement floods and save thousands in water damage repairs. Drop a "✓" if you've tested or "⏰" if you plan to test soon.

Have you asked the plumber or technician in your home how they're compensated? What if they were 100% commission based? Doesn't seem to align with caring about the customer.

Bedrock is proud to operate with no sales commissions, in fact, we only bonus our plumbers on 5 star reviews, meaning they're 100% aligned with taking care of you!

Is your hot water smelling like rotten eggs or your heater rusting out too soon? The anode rod might be the culprit.

It’s a hidden hero with a tough job, protecting your water heater from corrosion every single day.

Purpose: The anode rod attracts corrosive minerals in the water, sacrificing itself to keep your tank from rusting.

Location: Inside the water heater tank, typically screwed into the top. You won’t see it unless you open the unit.

Why it matters: A worn-out anode rod means your tank starts corroding from the inside. Replacing it can double the life of your water heater and save you from an early (and expensive) replacement.

Pro tip: Inspect your anode rod every 2–3 years. If it’s corroded down to the steel core, it’s time for a new one. It’s a small fix that protects a big investment.

Are your dishes spotty or your shower feeling less “fresh”? Your water softener might be due for a check-up.

It’s an overlooked system with a big job and if it’s not working right, hard water could be causing build-up, stains, and wear on your appliances.

Purpose: A water softener removes minerals like calcium and magnesium from hard water, helping extend the life of your pipes, water heater, and more.

Location: Usually found near where your main water line enters the home. Often in the basement, garage, or utility closet.

Why it matters: Hard water can clog pipes, reduce efficiency, damage appliances, and leave buildup on everything from faucets to your skin.

Pro tip: Check your salt level monthly. If it’s low or bridging (forming a hard crust), it’s time to refill or break it up. A quick check can save you costly repairs down the line.

Is your toilet constantly running? The flapper might be to blame. It’s a small part with a big job and it could be wasting gallons of water every day.

Purpose: The flapper seals the tank and lifts to release water during a flush. When it wears out, your toilet won’t stop running.

Location: Inside the toilet tank, connected to the flush handle and the flush valve.

Why it matters: A faulty flapper can waste up to 200 gallons of water a day. That’s money down the drain and bad for the environment.

Pro tip: Check your flapper once a year. If it’s warped, cracked, or doesn’t seal properly, it’s time to replace it. It’s an easy DIY fix that can save big.
