In case anybody was wondering this is what I've been doing. Most of the basement has been painted. Two bedrooms in the basement along with the bathroom and sitting area. Upstairs consisted of two bedrooms, two walk-in showers, great room with an 18-ft ceiling. Both bedrooms upstairs had smooth ceilings. Everything else was hit skip.

Finish drywall in the basement. Walls are smooth.
Ceiling and all of stairway is Hit/ Skip with no sand.

Someone is learning to drive. Everyone makes a mistake. Thankfully no one was hurt. Cultured stone was left over from when they built new. This is why you want to keep left over stone, brick, and of course cultured stone.
