TIP!: If you ever notice a "unique" smell in your laundry room, it very well could be that your floor drain is either too dry (meaning sewer gases are coming into your home) or it has stagnant, smelly water sitting somewhere in the drain. We recommend dumping a bucket of water down the floor drain every so often, to either add the needed water or to flush out stagnant water that may be trapped in the drain. 👍💧

Be wary of many of the "home remedies" that are recommended for clearing out drains. The majority of bathtub clogs are caused by hair, and the home remedies that you can buy in a store often don't clear this blockage. The toxic chemicals, however, can cause catastrophic issues to your sewer system that create bigger issues down the road. 👨‍🔧🛁

🚨If your home was built before 1980, this problem is likely to be present somewhere in your sewer line, too. This is a picture of an OFFSET (where two pipes were originally sealed together, but the seal has broken and the pipes have shifted over time.) You can see roots entering the sewer line through this offset, and those roots will continue to grow and eventually cause backups into your home. For homes built prior to 1980 (which was when sewer lines started being built with PVC instead of the cast iron or clay pipes that are easily susceptible to offsets), we recommend cleaning out your sewer line every 1-2 years to get rid of the roots & buildup that cause slow drainage and backups into your home. 🚽
