Small Problem → Big Damage (If Ignored)

We just finished this window + trim replacement — and it was right on time.

The old window was failing, and the exterior trim had started to rot. If left alone, this could’ve caused serious damage within the walls.

✅ Now it’s fixed
✅ Fully protected
✅ And looks great

Here’s the takeaway:
Small issues don’t stay small. They get expensive fast.

🏠 Want to stay ahead of problems?

We offer a Preventative Maintenance Program:

- Full exterior inspection
- We identify problem areas
- Ranked by severity (what’s urgent vs. what can wait)

So you can fix things early — before they turn into major repairs.

🏠 Does your home actually need replacement… or just a repair?

When something goes wrong with your roof, siding, or windows, it’s easy to assume the worst.

But the truth is — many exterior issues can be solved with targeted repairs rather than replacing the entire system.

For example:
• Replacing a few missing shingles after a storm
• Repairing flashing around vents or chimneys
• Fixing a cracked section of siding
• Replacing weatherstripping or hardware on windows

If the rest of the system is still in good condition, a localized repair can often restore protection and extend the life of your home.

We just published a new homeowner guide that explains:
• When repairs make more sense than replacement
• Signs your roof, siding, or windows may only need repair
• How Minnesota weather affects damage patterns
• Things homeowners should be cautious about when choosing repairs

If you're trying to decide what the right solution is for your home, this guide should help you make a more confident decision.

A quick piece of HOMEOWNER ADVICE.

Don’t rush into filing an insurance claim until you really understand the situation.

Sometimes a claim makes perfect sense. Other times it can create more complications than people expect. In a lot of cases, it’s worth having someone take a look first so you know what your options actually are.

Insurance companies have also been getting a lot pickier about what they will and won’t cover. The last thing you want is to put yourself in a position where you’re forced to do work that may not have actually needed to be done.

-------------------
RECENT EXAMPLE

We were called out to look at a home in Brooklyn Park. The homeowner had filed a storm damage claim almost two years ago, and their insurance company recently contacted them saying the repairs needed to be completed or the roof would no longer be covered under their policy.

The roof itself was the problem. Because of the age of the shingles and the type of material, trying to repair it the way the insurance company requested carried a real risk of causing more damage than the original storm damage.

Before doing anything, we suggested the homeowner call their insurance company and review the details of their policy.

That’s when we discovered they had matching coverage.

Our team identified the shingles on the roof and confirmed they were no longer manufactured, which meant a proper repair wasn’t really possible.

Because of that, the insurance company approved a full roof replacement instead of a repair.

----------------
THE TAKEAWAY

It worked out well for this homeowner, but situations like this are a good reminder that every roof and every insurance policy is a little different.

Before filing a claim, it’s worth knowing what you’re getting yourself into. Door-knocking companies are also very common in our area. While some may be legitimate, it’s still a good idea to slow down and make sure you understand the situation rather than assuming the worst thing that can happen is the insurance company just says no.

Taking a little time to understand everything up front can save a lot of headaches later.

🏠 Does every home improvement project require replacing everything?

Not always.

Sometimes the smartest solution is improving one specific area of your home instead of replacing the entire system.

For example:
• Updating the front siding to improve curb appeal
• Replacing a few windows in key rooms
• Adding gable accents or architectural details
• Upgrading a deck, patio cover, or outdoor space

Many homes across the Twin Cities and Minnesota were built or updated in phases, which means different parts of the home can age at different rates.

Because of this, partial upgrade projects can often be a practical and cost-effective way to improve your home while planning larger projects over time.

We just published a new homeowner guide that explains:
• What a partial upgrade project is
• When partial upgrades usually make sense
• When full replacement is the better option
• Examples of projects that can be completed in phases

If you're thinking about improving your home but aren't ready to replace everything at once, this guide should help you make a more confident decision.

🏠 Repair it… or replace it?

Over the years we've had thousands of conversations with homeowners that start with the same question:

“Should we repair this… or replace it?”

Sometimes a repair is absolutely the right move.

Other times repairs keep piling up and the better long-term solution is replacing the system.

Because this question comes up so often, we put together a new homeowner guide that explains:
• When repairs make sense
• When replacement usually becomes the smarter option
• Warning signs to watch for with roofs, siding, and windows
• How Minnesota weather affects exterior materials

If you're thinking about doing work on your home, this should help you make a more confident decision.
