: The U.S. believes that Russia has been providing Iran the locations of American troops in the region, including aircraft and ships, according to two people familiar with the intelligence. An intelligence official confirmed the U.S. belief that Russia is providing intelligence to Iran.

We designed and built a new second floor addition on an original small Cape Cod in a neighborhood of other similar one-story houses. The intention was to achieve the scale of a story-and-a-half home to not feel as an outsized home by contrast. We were at the Duluth Energy Design Conference last week to stay on top of current design trends and best practices. The conference topics included the materials and systems that make up high performance, energy efficient homes. These principals apply not only to new construction, but to remodeling and renovations as well.

We designed this Lake Nokomis kitchen and family room addition as an energy-efficient exterior wall system, eliminating the infiltration of air and moisture. This construction keeps the dew point outside of the house, allowing the interior wall to remain dry and warm. Also incorporated is hot water in-floor heat on each level, an expanded kitchen, no/low VOC finishes, FSC certified lumber, and a heat recovery ventilator.

On this Lilydale renovation project we removed the entire interior of this one-bedroom, one-bath condo. We replaced all of the picture windows with new H-windows that offer a beautiful view of the confluence of the Minnesota and Mississippi Rivers. As part of this project we also replaced the heating and cooling systems. Our client appreciated how we were able to create a bright, modern and open interior which reflects the curved geometry of the building.

Sherman Architecture is primarily involved with single family home design and construction, but we are interested in all forms of housing that shape our environment. A fairly recent phenomenon is the type of multifamily described in this article: four to seven story housing blocks, often rental apartments with steel balconies. They are typically wood framed above the first floor, usually with commercial space on the first floor, and ubiquitous in most urban areas. We have some concerns about whether this type of construction, form of ownership, and design implications are good for the developers more so than the residents and the community. What do you think?

Imagine having a bathtub like this as part of your bathroom remodel. This is one of five bathrooms we remodeled to accommodate the changing needs of this client’s family. The project consisted of a major upgrade to an existing large bath with hot tub (removed), a new large walk-in closet and laundry.
