Good morning! Are you noticing that your faucets seem to have less pressure and flow? It could be a clogged aerator. Here are the steps to help get your water flow back without an expensive visit from a professional.
1. Cover the drain of the sink you are going to be working on. (This ensures that small parts don't fall down the drain).
2. Now you will remove the aerator. To do this you will need pliers, a rag or masking tape. Take either the rag or masking tape and apply it to the aerator. (This step helps avoid scratching your faucet). Now turn the pliers clockwise and remove the aerator.
3. Once you have removed the aerator, carefully tap the internal parts to remove them. This includes a screen, a flow restrictor and a rubber washer. Make a note of the order the pieces come out so you can put it back together properly.
4. Soak the parts you removed in a bowl of white vinegar for about 30 minutes. After 30 minutes gently scrub the parts with a toothbrush to remove any remaining debris.
5. Lastly, take all the pieces you cleaned and put them back in the order you previously noted. Don't forget to ensure that the rubber seal is placed back properly to avoid leaks. Twist the aerator back on and tighten by hand.
Congratulations you just saved yourself some money and learned something new!
