Project update #11: Another week, another update. At the interior of the campus we completed our anodized aluminum canopies. In our classrooms we started our final coat of paint as well as our interior trim at doors and windows. In combination with this, we also fired up our VRF and MAU HVAC systems to provide conditioned air to our space while also working on our “T” canopy carpentry out front and finishing up our windows through the installation of trim plates for mullions, sills, and window heads.

Most importantly though, this week we’ve started our roof truss replacement for our cafeteria. Our previous thoughts to reuse the existing trusses in place for our new roof was discovered to be impractical and as such we had to draft a backup plan. Our plan going forward is to replace 32 existing trusses with new trusses of similar aesthetic but stronger characteristics. Notably, because we have finished products beneath our roof truss replacement area and because the existing masonry walls supporting the trusses are 28 feet tall we are having to replace the trusses segmentally as opposed to ripping the entire roof off at once and then reinstalling our new works. In respect of this, we’ve had to build a dance floor scaffolding platform beneath the entire workspace so our guys have a platform to safely work off of as we move forward.

Project update #10: This week was a busy one! As we sprint to finish over summer break we have gotten a lot done. Starting on the interior of the campus, we poured the remainder of concrete walks that we formed up last week and we started our masonry veneer for our teacher dining area. Jumping to the interior of the building, we established our ceiling grid and have emplaced within it our lights and devices. We’ve also placed our wall and floor tile at our gang bathrooms, single bathrooms, and corridor walls as well as substantially complete our windows. Looking back to the outside of the campus on the Ocean Blvd side we’ve begun our rough carpentry at our main canopy. And at the cafeteria, we’ve ordered our new replacement trusses to mitigate our roof load and overhead utility load conflict.

Project update #9: This week our site looked a lot different. At the interior of the campus we substantially completed our running track’s placement, we formed up the remainder of our concrete sidewalks, we demolished our previous CMU and pea gravel configuration for the roof drip edge drainage and reinstalled a new all concrete configuration in its place at the design team’s request. At the front of the school, we met with our rough carpenter Jorge to go over his scope of work so he can get started framing our canopies and we received our glass on site for our windows and began glass installation while also working through some sill break metal details with our subcontractor. On the interior of the building, we installed the remainder of our spray foam insulation at the teacher’s dining area, we primed our drywall within classrooms, we began the installation of our grout bed for tile in the gang bathrooms, and we started our wall tile installation at our single baths and main corridor.

Project update #8: This week we took a pause to thank our guys on site by cooking them some “danger dogs” (hot dogs wrapped in bacon served with a side of an on site safety meeting) and we served some nice cold sodas and chips to go with it. It’s hot as heck out here being that it is the middle of the summer and we’re at the beach so we wanted to make sure that our guys know we appreciate them.
As for our weekly update, it wasn’t all grilling and chilling. We still made great forward progress. At the interior of the campus we began establishing final grades in preparation for our concrete running track’s placement and we continued our installation of roof drip edge drainage. Over at the Cafeteria, we installed our permanent storm sewer piping and we met with our mason for us to host a preconstruction meeting and him to field measure exactly how many bricks he will be installing in the coming weeks. At the front of the building we continued forward with our brick masonry restoration and we started installing our windows. And at the interior of the building we continued installing our electrical wires within raceways, we made up final plumbing piping connections, and we abated and removed some old ductile iron piping.
