When most people hear “Edison bulb” today, they usually picture the warm vintage style bulbs you see in restaurants, coffee shops, and modern industrial spaces.
But the original bulbs from Thomas Edison’s time looked a lot different than the decorative versions we know now. Early incandescent bulbs were much more fragile and experimental looking, with visible filaments, unusual bases, and short lifespans compared to modern lighting. At the time, electric lighting itself still felt futuristic.
The Edison style bulbs used today are really more of a tribute to that era than the exact same technology. Most modern “Edison bulbs” are actually LED, designed to capture the look and warm glow of early incandescent lighting while using a fraction of the energy and lasting significantly longer.
Kind of interesting how something that started as one of the biggest technological breakthroughs of its time eventually became part of modern interior design and everyday life.
