The Forest Service has announced it is hosting a series of meetings in early June to update the public on the status of the Blue Mountains Forest Plan Revision process. View meeting dates and information here or at the link below . All meetings will be in person with a virtual option provided.
Please consider attending one or more of these meetings to show support for active forest management and a Plan that provides a robust supply of timber products. More information on the meetings and the public engagement process in general can be found here:https://www.fs.usda.gov/sites/nfs/files/r06/umatilla/publication/20260505_PublicMeetingsFlyer.pdf

Specifically, the meetings will focus on the upcoming Draft Environmental Impact Statement and the Draft Land Management Plan. The Forest Service published a Preliminary Draft Land Management Plan in the fall of 2025. AOL joined our partners at AFRC to submit joint comments on that Preliminary Draft.

AOL joined our partners at American Loggers Council in Washington DC this week.

We met with nearly all of the offices of the Oregon Congressional Delegation and had a very nice meeting with USDA Undersecretary Borne who oversees the US Forest Service.

We also had the chance to sit in on a House Committee on Natural Resources GOP Oversight and Investigations hearing titled: “The Profit Engine Driving Environmental Nonprofits.”

During our visit, we focused on:
⛽️Biomass markets
🪵Timber supply
🎓Workforce development
⚖️USDA/DOI reorganizations
💰Agency budgets

It was also amazing to feel the celebratory air of the upcoming 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the start to our beautiful nation! 🇺🇸

🌲 Safety in action!

On April 15th, AOL member Jeff Plikat of Plikat Logging, Inc. hosted a helicopter medical emergency training in Roseburg, coordinated by Mike Weaver of AOL in partnership with REACH Air Medical Services. The training included classroom instruction, a live helicopter landing, patient loading, and a demonstration of extricating an injured logger — providing a unique and valuable hands-on learning experience for all who attended.

A big thank you to Jeff, Mike, paramedic Sam Lillie, and the entire REACH crew for sharing their expertise and helping strengthen safety preparedness in our industry. We appreciate your partnership and dedication to keeping our logging community safe.

It’s great to have allies and friends fighting for a seat at the Oregon Capitol! AOL is proud to be endorsing HD 9 Candidate, Claire Lynn.

Yesterday, I spent time at one of our logging sides in the heart of House District 9. There are decades of timber knowledge represented here.

The crew was excited to get in a picture. It made me proud and served as a great reminder of why I’m in this fight: These are the best stewards of our land. They want their kids and grandkids to work and play in these woods for generations to come. That’s what I want, too.

AOL had a successful trip to Washington DC for the Forest Resources Association fly-in.

We had the chance to speak to the Oregon delegation about the Safe Routes Act and the Jobs in the Woods Act. We also discussed H-2B visa reform and the workforce challenges for our reforestation, wildland firefighting, and other labor intensive workforce members across the state.

We were able to have productive conversations with USDA Undersecretary Borne, USFS Chief Schultz, and the BLM about AOL’s policy reform priorities to get back to basics on federal lands and increase timber production while keeping loggers safe, working, and innovating.

We also had the opportunity to collaborate with allied organizations like the National Association of Forestland Owners, the Society of American Foresters, and American Forests.

We are happy to report that we were well received and made positive progression forward on all our priorities during our fly-in.

Associated Oregon Loggers is in Washington DC and started our trip with a meeting with the US Forest Service Chief Schultz.

Thank you for a warm welcome to DC and for all of your work to increase active forest management of our Nation’s forests.

We discussed ways the USFS can support loggers, from training programs to timber outputs and technology integration. The US Forest Service is working hard to make real change for the forest sector and the health of our Nation’s forests.
