🎡🌸 The Fair Starts TOMORROW! 🌸🎡

Today we got a little behind-the-scenes peek at the fair while getting our floral show entries checked in—and let me tell you, the excitement is REAL! 😍

The vendors were already setting up, some were open, and we may or may not have taken advantage of that situation… 🌭😂 A corn dog or three may have disappeared.

And that fried rice? Couldn’t pass it up. 🤷‍♀️😂

We also got to see the giant pumpkins being weighed, some seriously impressive tallest sunflower entries, an angry turkey, and all the hustle and bustle of everyone getting their exhibits, booths, animals, food, and displays ready for tomorrow.

There’s just something so fun about seeing the fair come together before the gates officially open. 🎡

After all the garden prep, deadheading, watering, protecting blooms, and crossing our fingers for everything to open at the right time… we’re officially entered! 🌸🏆

Tomorrow, the fair begins! Who’s going?! 👀🎡

🌙 ’Twas the Night Before Floral Entries… 🌙

’Twas the night before floral entries, and all through the yard,
Not a dahlia was perfect… this job was HARD. 😂

The blooms were still opening, the fair was so near,
And I’m standing in my garden thinking, “Is this one ready this year?” 😳

The dahlias got covers to keep bugs away,
Because apparently beetles want a fair ribbon too—okay? 🪲😂

The containers got deadheaded, watered with care,
Yellow leaves removed so they’d look perfect there. 🪴✂️

The herbs were pre-cut and tucked into water just right,
Hoping those droopy little stems perk up overnight. 🌿💦

Rosemary, sage, lavender, chives and basil in line—
Come on, little herbs… this is your time to shine! 😂

🎄🌱🎄🌱🎄🌱🎄🌱🎄🌱🎄🌱🎄🌱🎄🌱🎄

At Spout & Sprout Co., we’ve watered and weeded,
fertilized, protected, and definitely overthought it. 😆 And after months of growing, we’re finally here…
FAIR WEEK! 🎡🌸 Now I’m just waiting on those last few blooms to open…because apparently they didn’t get the “deadline” memo. 🤦‍♀️😂

Wish us luck! We’re officially down to the wire! 🏆💚

It’s officially FAIR WEEK! 🎡🌻🏆 And you know what that means around here… the gardens are getting their final glow-up before entries head to the fair!

There’s a LOT that goes into getting everything ready. 🌿✂️💦

🌸 Dahlias: Covered with mesh to protect those perfect petals from bugs. And yes… the pictures are proof! 🐜🪲 You can actually see a few little garden visitors caught on the outside of the mesh instead of making holes in the blooms.

🪴 Containers: It’s time for the final details—deadheading, removing yellow or damaged leaves, watering thoroughly, and making sure every plant is looking its absolute best.

This is the fun part where all those months of growing, watering, fertilizing, protecting, and caring finally come together. ❤️

Now we wait and see what makes the cut! 🤞🌻🌸

FAIR WEEK, HERE WE COME! 🎡✨

🍅 Performing a little tomato surgery today… 🔪😂

This year’s favorite tomatoes were a gift from a friend, and they have been putting in the work! They make the BEST fresh tomato sandwiches—the kind that only summer can give you. ☀️🍅🍞

They’re also headed for some amazing homemade tomato sauce! 🍝 But the best part? These tomatoes originally came straight from Italy 🇮🇹❤️ and I made sure to save plenty of seeds for next year’s garden.

Fresh sandwiches now, homemade sauce later, and hopefully a whole new crop next summer. Now that’s what I call a successful surgery. 😂🍅

The Luffa Comeback!

I had to give one of my luffa gourds a little help today because it was getting so big that it was actually wedging itself into the ground! 😳

I measured it… 20 inches long! 😱 And there are SO many more little gourds forming all over the vines.

It’s hard to believe that back at the beginning of July, we thought the tornado had completely ruined these vines. The wind knocked them around, flattened them, and left them looking pretty rough.

But they bounced back. 💚

A little time, care, and a whole lot of growing—and look at them now!

Nature really does know how to surprise you. ✨

🍂 Okay, Fall… Slow Your Roll! 🍂

Is anyone else starting to notice it? 👀 The leaves are already beginning to change, and I’m just not quite ready for summer to let go yet! 🌿☀️

But as much as I want to tell the trees to slow their roll, there’s something pretty special about watching the seasons change.

Summer gives us growth, blooms, buzzing pollinators and long garden days. 🌸🐝 Then fall comes along and reminds us that every season has a purpose — slowing down, changing colors, preparing for rest and making room for what comes next. 🍁

So maybe instead of wishing summer away or rushing into fall, we can appreciate a little of both. Let’s help each season along, one day at a time. 🌱➡️🍂

Who else isn’t ready for summer to end yet? 🙋‍♀️☀️
And what are you most looking forward to about fall? 🍁

Mark your calendar! September = Share the Garden!

September is one of my favorite times to start dividing perennials—and the best part? You can turn one established plant into several free plants to fill your garden or share with friends! 💚

Dividing can help:
🌿 Rejuvenate crowded, overgrown plants
🌿 Improve flowering and overall plant health
🌿 Give roots more room to grow
🌿 Multiply your favorite plants without buying more
🌿 And, of course… share the garden love! 🪴

Some great September candidates include hostas, daylilies, peonies, iris, coneflowers, bee balm, black-eyed Susans, coral bells, ornamental grasses and many other established perennials.

A few plants don’t love being divided in the fall, so always check the specific plant before grabbing the shovel. And give those new divisions plenty of water while they get established before winter.

Because sometimes the best plants in your garden are the ones that came from someone else’s garden.

August 24 - From the Burn Pile to Buds!

Remember those little passion flower starter vines I rescued from a burn pile during a bed clean-out a month ago (First photo)? They didn’t look so good….I’ve been babying them ever since, hoping they’d reward me for giving them a second chance.

Well… LOOK AT THEM NOW! 🥹

They’re starting to form flower buds!

It’s pretty amazing to watch a plant that was almost discarded begin to settle in, grow, and get ready to bloom. Sometimes a little rescue, patience, and a whole lot of care is all a plant needs. 💚

Now I’m watching those buds closely and crossing my fingers for my first passion flower blooms! 🤞🌸
