Finish work is well underway on our Newberg addition.

The masonry columns, exterior doors, interior finish work, flooring, and plumbing trim are now complete. Outside, our team is continuing with the soffits, siding, and decking, all important details in tying the new garage addition and wrap-around deck into the home’s existing cedar construction.

Next up are interior painting, the PGE main service transfer, electrical trim, and additional exterior concrete slabs.

Thank you to Hoffman Build Co., Kaufman Masonry, H & M Overhead Doors Inc, Cascade Door & Millwork, and Dynamic Plumbing for their work on the project.

Building a custom home comes with a lot of decisions.

Some are fun.

What kind of flooring do you want?

What appliances fit the way you cook?

What does the perfect primary bathroom look like?

Others carry a little more weight.

Is this upgrade actually worth the money?

Where should we spend more, and where does it make sense to save?

Will we regret this decision five years from now?

Our job isn’t to make those decisions for our clients.

It’s to help them make them well.

That means slowing down enough to understand what matters to them. Asking questions. Explaining the tradeoffs. Sharing what we’ve learned from past projects. And sometimes pointing out something they may not have considered.

One thing we’ve learned over the years is that the “best” decision isn’t always the most expensive one.

Sometimes spending more upfront creates real long-term value. Sometimes it doesn’t.

Sometimes the right answer is simply, you probably don’t need that.

We believe a good builder should be comfortable saying all three.

Because at the end of the project, it’s not our home. It’s theirs.

Our responsibility is to bring the experience, information, and perspective we’ve gained from building homes every day, and use it to help our clients make decisions they’ll still feel good about years from now.

One of the biggest decisions you’ll make when building a home isn’t the floor plan.

It’s how your builder gets paid.

A contract isn’t just paperwork. It creates incentives.

When a builder invests significant time into preconstruction, develops detailed specifications, coordinates with trade partners, and builds a realistic schedule before construction begins, everyone benefits. The homeowner knows what they’re buying. The builder knows what they’re building. Expectations are aligned before the first shovel hits the ground.

That’s why we believe so strongly in a thorough preconstruction process and fixed-price contracts.

Could we estimate a project quickly and figure out the details later?

Of course.

But that’s not how we believe trust is built.

We’d rather spend the time upfront asking the difficult questions, identifying unknowns, and making hundreds of decisions before construction starts. It isn’t the fastest approach, but we believe it’s the best one.

A well-planned project is more likely to finish on budget, on schedule, and without the surprises that too often leave homeowners frustrated.

If you’re interviewing builders, don’t just compare the number at the bottom of the proposal.

Ask:

• How much work was done before this price was prepared?
• How detailed are the specifications?
• What assumptions are still unknown?
• Who carries the risk if something was overlooked?

The lowest stress projects rarely happen by accident.

They happen when homeowners and builders are willing to invest the time upfront, and work through the details together before construction begins.

Most framing isn’t meant to be seen. This one is.

Craftsmanship is on full display throughout this project. As the finish-grade maple plywood is installed over the framing material, every panel, reveal, and detail is carefully executed because these surfaces become part of the finished home. Precision isn’t optional when the structure itself is part of the design.

That same attention to detail extends beyond what you’ll see when the home is complete. A clean job site doesn’t happen by accident. It’s a reflection of the care, pride, and discipline that go into every stage of the build, creating a safer, more efficient workspace while protecting the quality of the finished product.

The same philosophy carries through to the home’s performance. More than 7 inches of continuous Gutex wood fiber insulation wrap the walls, with approximately 12 inches on the roof. Combined with triple-pane windows and the thermal performance of the CLT panels, the home is designed to achieve wall assemblies of approximately R-30 and roof assemblies of approximately R-50.

All of that precision leads to measurable performance. During construction, the home achieved an impressive 0.27 ACH50 on its blower door test, demonstrating just how tightly and carefully every layer of the building envelope was constructed.

Long before the finishes go in, the standard has already been set.

We've been building homes and trust in this community for a long time. And today, we're giving our look a refresh that reflects where we've been and where we're going.

Kaufman Homes has a new logo.

It's a nod to the family of companies we've built alongside us; Kaufman Maintenance and Kaufman Commercial. All united under one banner. The name you've trusted hasn't changed. Just a fresh face on a foundation that's been here for years.

Thank you for being part of our story.

As our nation celebrates 250 years of independence, we're reminded how fortunate we are to live in a country where we have the freedom to worship God and live according to our convictions, work hard, serve our communities, and help families create places to call home.

We believe that the freedom to live out our faith has been one of the great blessings of our nation and a foundation that has allowed generations of Americans to flourish. We are grateful for the opportunity to honor God through our work, serve our clients with integrity, and contribute to the communities that make this country such a special place.

From all of us at Kaufman Homes, we wish you a safe and happy Fourth of July as we celebrate America's 250th birthday.

We are grateful to be recognized as the Bronze Winner for Best Home Builder in the 2026 Best of the Willamette Valley Awards!

We want to say thank you to all who nominated us for Best Home Builder of Willamette Valley. This recognition belongs to our homeowners, our dedicated team, our trade partners, and everyone who has supported Kaufman Homes along the way. Thank you for your trust, your support, and the opportunity to do work that truly matters.

While we’re grateful for the legacy that’s been built over the past five decades, we’re even more excited to continue serving future generations of homeowners with the same care, craftsmanship, and commitment that have defined Kaufman Homes from the very beginning.

We have a new project underway in Newberg featuring a garage addition and a wrap-around deck. Site work is officially in progress and we appreciate K & E Excavating getting things started with the dig out and ground prep. Looking forward to seeing this project come together from the ground up and sharing the progress along the way.
