Every detail tells a story.

At the Landmark on Cypress in downtown Abilene, Texas, skilled craftsmen are carefully repairing the historic plaster and recreating the original decorative molding on the second floor mezzanine. It's meticulous work, but it's these details that preserve the character and craftsmanship of a place for future generations.

Formerly the West Texas Utilities Company Headquarters, constructed in phases starting in 1923, this 7-story blonde brick building will be transformed into 47 apartments & lofts, with commercial spaces along Cypress St. and N. 3rd Street.

Historic rehabilitation is about more than saving old buildings—it's about bringing them back to life while honoring the artistry that made them worth preserving in the first place.

The Landmark on Cypress marks JGR's first historic rehabilitation project in Abilene, and we're excited to help preserve a piece of their history.

🌟 Welcome Back, Rich! 🌟

JGR is excited to welcome Rich Wiggins back to the team as a full-time Architectural Designer following his graduation from The University of Kansas, where he earned his Master of Architecture. Many of our clients and community members may already recognize Rich from his internship with us last summer.

Originally from the Prairie Village area of Kansas City, Rich began his journey to become an architect when he discovered a deep connection to the historic neighborhoods in KC and decided to pursue building design and conservation. At KU, he completed his certifications in the Historic Preservation Program and Studio 804 Design-Build Program; both of which drove him deeper towards the goal of becoming a preservationist and licensed architect.

"My goal in my career is to merge designing the future with preserving the past and save as many historic buildings and homes as I can along the way. I had a wonderful experience interning at JGR in 2025 where I worked on historic rehabilitations, affordable housing, and large-scale market rate residential projects. My work experience last summer and present-day taught me that JGR holds all the values I want in a firm, and I am very excited to return and give my all to our many historic and new-build housing projects." - Rich

Outside of the office, Rich enjoys volunteering for different preservation organizations in Kansas City; he also enjoys hiking, wildlife viewing in the Flint Hills, and reading!

Exciting things are taking shape on E. Crawford!

On May 18, we were proud to celebrate the groundbreaking for the new SRH Advisors building. Deb and Charles were on hand representing the JGR team as this exciting project officially got underway.

Designed to make a strong first impression, the new building will feature a striking sloped-glass entry, expansive clerestory windows that bring natural light deep into the space, and a timeless combination of brick and limestone veneers. The result will be a distinctive and eye-catching addition to the area.

We’re grateful to be part of this project and look forward to watching the vision come to life in the months ahead.
