We’re excited to announce that our Founder & CEO, Nikki Cossio, has been appointed to the California Agricultural Leadership Foundation’s board of directors.

We would also like to congratulate another newly appointed board member, Sal Parra Jr. of Burford Ranch, a multigenerational family operation. Sal is also an owner and partner of Coyula Farms.

The California Agricultural Leadership Foundation is dedicated to growing leadership in agriculturalists who have the capacity and potential to advance, benefit, and promote California agriculture. Since 1970, more than 1,400 California Agricultural Leadership Program fellows have become lifelong leaders who individually and collectively act as catalysts for a vibrant agricultural community and make a significant difference in the agricultural industry, their businesses, communities, and families.

Measure to Improve's CEO and Burford Ranch's director of farming have joined the foundation board.

Sustainability initiatives from retailers and buyers trickle down to growers.

Medium to large growers supplying Kroger must meet set Integrated Pest Management Practices by the end of 2028, while small-sized growers have until 2030. Suppliers can comply with the standard by achieving one of several third-party certifications.

At Measure to Improve, we have helped numerous clients with buyers' sustainability requests, as well as achieve third-party certifications. Is your organization prepared to meet these new standards?

New goal will require suppliers to meet specific guidelines by 2028 or 2030, depending on size

When companies make unbacked sustainability claims, it holds back the progress of other important sustainability initiatives. But, when companies are transparent and can verify their sustainability claims, it builds trust with consumers, which can be a business advantage in a competitive marketplace.

Has your company made any sustainability claims? At Measure to Improve, we help clients build data-backed, 100% verifiable sustainability programs that are often foundational for communicating sustainability progress.

Greenwashing around sustainability hurts the growth of important initiatives for the environment, society and animal welfare, but when companies make honest, transparent and science-backed claims about their sustainability, consumer trust is not only improved, but their perception of a premium produ...

COP28 wrapped up last week, and agriculture - with global food production contributing to a third of greenhouse gas emissions - was a central theme in many discussions. Many corporations committed financial pledges and research partnerships to promote sustainable farming and food production, and philanthropists announced their own investments in sustainable agriculture to address climate change and food security.

Food loss starts on the farm but is frequently due to decisions from other sectors outside of growers' control. This upcoming town hall hosted by the International Fresh Produce Association on December 20 will highlight the impact and opportunity that reducing food loss and waste offers for the environment, economy, and communities facing food insecurity.

The town hall will focus on a project that can serve as a model for others to reduce food waste in ways that benefit stakeholders across supply chains. Those joining can expect to gain insights from a cross-sector collaboration between retailers and suppliers to reduce food waste across the U.S. fresh strawberry supply chain.

Every Wednesday, the Virtual Town Hall series presents current business challenges in fresh produce and floral, with expert insight and interactive attendee participation to work toward solutions.

The U.S. Food Waste Pact, launched by ReFED and the World Wildlife Fund, aims to halve food waste in the U.S. by 2030. By bringing together major players like Walmart, Aldi, and others across the supply chain, the pact will share data and best practices to drive progress on this critical issue.

Collaboration across the entire supply chain is how we'll tackle the most challenging sustainability issues facing our industry.

The pact will follow an approach the Pacific Coast Food Waste Commitment developed, with signatories across the food supply chain agreeing to cut food loss and waste by collaborating on data-sharing and best practices.

International Fresh Produce Association attended COP28 to advocate for the role of food in the world's climate plans. The fresh produce industry is critical to feeding a growing population and must be part of the solution to climate change through climate-smart agriculture and carbon farming.

Measure to Improve is proud to be working with IPFA and a group of partners to lay the groundwork for what climate-smart agriculture means for the fresh produce industry.

“COP28 is the place for global decision-makers to discuss issues that impact sustainability and climate change,” said Max Teplitski, IFPA chief science officer, of the conference in the United Arab Emirates.

Over one-third of the food produced in the United States is never eaten. The EPA's recent report highlights the scale and complexity of food loss and waste in our food system.

Measure to Improve is proud to be working on projects with many across the industry to address this urgent sustainability issue.

EPA prepared this report to inform domestic policymakers, researchers, and the public about the environmental footprint of food loss and waste in the U.S. and the environmental benefits that can be achieved by reducing U.S. food loss and waste.
