I am Alicia Ramirez and I am an Advocate and street Outreach worker for the Unsheltered residents in our community. What is affordable housing? I say that every applicant who has filed and application and got denied because of low credit score or didn't meet the criteria of having an income making 2 or 3 times over the amount of the specified rent in their affordable housing units that we all get together and start a petition and take this matter to the ACLU and file a class action lawsuit against every affordable housing developer and the state for the Gerry meandering schemes they engaged in in our communities with these so called affordable housing units being erected everywhere in our community. How is this affordable housing when your on disablity or low income and don't hold a housing voucher? Affordable housing should be offered to everyone and not just to those with a voucher or have a higher income and a higher credit score. Come on people wake up and see the reality of what is really going on. With my lived experiences and proof i can tell you that these developers are also ripping people off and keeping all the rental fees that can become expensive for those like me or with these lived experiences who are on a fixed or low income and getting rejected left and right on their applications and they keep your fees knowing you won't qualify because of these criterias they set in order for you to pass the application process. So you may ask? Who are the real thieves ripping off the citizens iin our communities? They don't tell you before hand that if you don't have a credit score above the 680 mark you won't qualify. I became homeless and extremely disbaled and couldnt work any more and lost my landscaping business and even lost my credit trying my best to survive on these streets and on disability benefits and couldnt keep up with debts because i was left with the only option to survive and eat or pay off debts and so i got rejected at all the affordable housing apartments I applied for because I didn't meet any of their criterias (I have proof of all receipts totalling $670 in application fees and rejection emails), so how is this affordable to people with disabilities and struggling to survive? No one like me or anyone coming from homelessness will qualify to get into a unit unless you have a voucher and in order to get a voucher you have to wait years on a waiting list unless your lucky enough to be picked in the lottery system housing has when all organizations (recieving funding to help the homeless) meet and pick and choose from a list who gets a voucher. UNBELIEVABLE!!

Dear {Enter Landlord’s Name}:
I live at {enter address}. I (or a member of my household) am a person with a disability as defined by the Fair Housing Act. I am writing to request a reasonable accommodation under the federal Fair Housing Act.
POSSIBLE REQUEST 1: I am requesting permission for an assistance animal to assist with daily living. I understand that our building’s rules state a no-pet policy. However, I am requesting that you make a reasonable accommodation in the building’s rules to permit an assistance animal in my apartment.
POSSIBLE REQUEST 2: I am requesting a reserved parking space closest to my unit. I understand parking is on a first come, first serve basis, but due to my limited mobility, I am requesting a reserved parking space closest to my unit.
POSSIBLE REQUEST 3: I am requesting to pay my rent on the 6th of the month without being assessed a late fee. I receive my disability checks on the 5th of the month.
According to the Fair Housing Act Amendments Sec. 804 (42 U.S.C. 3604) (f)(3)(B), (3) For purposes of this subsection, discrimination includes– (B) a refusal to make reasonable accommodations in rules, policies, practices, or services, when such accommodations may be necessary to afford such person equal opportunity to use and enjoy a dwelling.
You can refer to the Joint Statement from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Department of Justice detailing the obligations of housing providers under the Fair Housing Act to make reasonable accommodations for persons with disabilities. You can access this Joint Statement by visiting equalhousing.org and clicking on the Landlord Resource Center.
Please respond in writing to my request within ten days from the date of this letter. I look forward to your response and appreciate your attention to this critical matter.
