Took the family on an architectural sight seeing tour in Ogden before doing some soccer training at Ogden Highschool. Ogden has some great historic building, but Eccles Avenue Historic District is one of my favorite places in the area. FLW's prairie style architecture style is in full display.

Soccer games are over. Disney is not until tomorrow so we decided to go see a couple architectural gems. The first was Frank Lloyd Wright's Ennis House in LA. This is still a private residence so only exterior pics.

The second was the Hollyhock house which is just down the street. This house is truly stunning. Commissioned by an oil heiress who wished for the house to be the central piece of her cultural arts complex, FLW created a Myan Revivalist style for the house. Built with textile blocks, the home blends with the landscape using outdoor terraces, roof decks, courts and gardens as requested by the owner. Named after the clients favorite flower, the house has the hollyhock motif designed by FLW used in abundance. Unfortunetly, considerable cost overruns discouraged the owner so she donated the house to the city shortly after the first phase was completed.

Had a great time introducing the family to FLW. It's hard not to be inspired while walking around this masterpiece.
