Before the family comes over this summer, run these 3 checks on your deck.

Takes 5 minutes & could save someone from getting hurt!

1. Shake the railing.
Any wobble at all means the posts underneath aren’t blocked properly. That’s the only thing stopping someone falling off your deck.

2. Lay a level across the boards.
If it’s not sitting flat, your footings have settled. The posts holding the whole deck up are moving.

3. Walk the deck and look down.
Popped screws and lifting boards mean the wood underneath is rotting. Screws can’t hold rotted wood.

If your deck fails one, I’d recommend you get it sorted ASAP!

5 reasons why we won’t build a wood deck:

1. Utah weather destroys wood.
Freeze, thaw, snow, rain, repeat. Composite doesn’t care.

2. Wood watermarks the first storm.
And the stains never come out.

3. You’ll spend $5,000 over 10 years sanding, staining and sealing it.
Composite needs a hose.

4. Wood lasts 10 to 15 years.
Composite lasts 25 to 50.

5. By the time the wood deck has been replaced once, the composite is at year 10 of a 50 year lifespan.

Composite or PVC over wood every time, especially here in Utah.
