Yesterday we met a wonderfully sweet homeowner named Miss Connie; she’s an 82 year old grandma, and lives near the SeaWorld area here in San Antonio.
Back in March of 2025, a big hailstorm rolled through her neighborhood and damaged her roof. Like most homeowners would, she filed an insurance claim hoping to get things fixed properly.
Her insurance company approved replacing only one side of her roof…..
The other side? Denied. 🤦🏻♂️
And that side just happened to be the one with 28 solar panels installed across it — which would make the repair significantly more expensive on that half of the roof.
Miss Connie told us she had already tried to do everything right. She even had a roofer from the neighborhood help submit pictures, asking the insurance company to take another look.
Instead of reconsidering, the insurance carrier sent out what they called a “licensed forensic engineer.”
That’s never a good thing for homeowners.
The engineer concluded that only one half of the roof was damaged and wrote a report supporting the insurance company’s decision.
For most homeowners, that’s where the story usually ends. When someone with a title like forensic engineer signs a report, it can make people feel like there’s nothing else they can do.
But here’s the truth.
Roofs aren’t just random sections of shingles. They’re interconnected systems built in layers; slopes intersect, materials overlap, and the way one section is constructed directly affects the sections next to it.
When our team got on the roof, we started documenting the way the roof was ACTUALLY assembled.
The chalk marks you see in the photo show how the intersecting slopes tie together and how the shingles overlap through those areas. When storm damage occurs across those assemblies, it can’t always be isolated to one small section the way insurance companies sometimes try to frame it.
This is why construction knowledge matters.
At A5 Roofing, we’ve spent more than two decades in construction and roofing. Our job isn’t just installing shingles- it’s understanding how these systems are built and making sure homeowners aren’t left trying to fight technical battles alone.
And truthfully, the majority of the people who call us are the same type of homeowner:
85% of all of our customers each year are Women managing households, families, careers, and busy lives. That’s right- more women choose A5 Roofing than anyone else, and do you know why?
Because they don’t have time to argue with engineering reports or go back and forth with insurance companies. They just want someone they trust to handle the situation professionally and make sure their home is taken care of the right way.
That’s what we do.
We document the facts.
We explain the construction.
We communicate clearly.
And most importantly, we help homeowners navigate situations that feel overwhelming.
Because getting your roof fixed shouldn’t be another stress added to your life.
If you’re ever in a situation where something about your roof claim doesn’t feel right, it’s okay to get a second opinion.
Sometimes the difference isn’t the roof.
It’s the contractor you call. 🔨 🏠 ❤️
