Bleach is not a mold removal solution, and that's true no matter how hard you scrub. It might lighten or remove the color of surface mold, but bleach does not kill mold growing in porous materials like drywall, wood, or insulation, and it does nothing for the spores already spreading behind your walls, under your flooring, or through your HVAC system.

Here's the part that makes it even more misleading: cleaning with bleach can actually mask the problem. That "clean" spot on the wall looks handled, but the source of moisture and the hidden colonies feeding off it are still very much there, growing where you can't see them.

That's exactly why professional mold remediation is the only real path forward. Our team at SERVPRO of Northeast San Antonio uses proper containment, air filtration, and moisture control to remove mold at the actual source, not just off the surface, and we track down the root cause, whether it's a slow leak, poor ventilation, or damage from a past water issue, so it doesn't just come right back.

If you're noticing a musty smell, discoloration, or you've had water damage in the past, skip the bleach entirely and let's get to the actual source of the problem.

When disaster hits your home or business, the last thing you want is to wait on a crew driving in from another city. That's the difference with SERVPRO of Northeast San Antonio. We're not some far-off call center dispatching whoever's available. We're your neighbors. Our team lives in this community and works in this community, so when you call, we're not figuring out logistics from scratch, we're already close.

Being local isn't just about speed either, though speed matters a lot when water or fire damage is involved. Every hour that passes gives mold more time to grow and damage more time to spread, so getting a crew on site fast can genuinely change the outcome of your cleanup. But local also means something bigger: accountability. We're not a name you'll never hear from again after the job's done. Our reputation in this community is built one job at a time, so we show up, we do it right, and we stand behind our work. And if something comes up again months or years down the road, we're still right here, easy to reach and ready to help.

You get the personal attention and quick response of a local, community-based team, backed by the training, equipment, and proven process of a trusted national brand. That's a combination that's hard to beat when you need help fast.

When disaster strikes, choose local. Choose SERVPRO.

Mold is one of those problems that doesn't stay small if you ignore it, especially in a commercial space.

Once it takes hold, it's not just a maintenance issue. It can affect your employees' health, damage inventory or equipment, and become obvious to customers the second they walk in. There's no specific exposure limit for mold under OSHA, but business owners still carry a duty to keep the workplace safe, so unresolved mold can turn into a real liability.

It affects insurance too. A lot of commercial policies only cover mold if it's tied to something sudden, like a pipe burst or storm damage, not a slow leak that went unnoticed for weeks or months.

If your building deals with humidity, past water damage, or HVAC issues, it's worth getting ahead of it. Catching moisture problems early is almost always faster and cheaper than dealing with mold that's already spread behind walls or under flooring.

If your home has ever taken on water from a rising creek or storm flooding, you already know the cleanup part isn't as simple as letting things dry out.

Rising water is considered contaminated. It carries silt, bacteria, and sometimes sewage, which makes it very different from a clean water leak inside your house. That contamination is really what determines whether something can be saved, not just how wet it got.

Porous things like carpet padding and some upholstery usually can't be salvaged once contaminated water soaks in. But furniture, electronics, and a lot of textiles can often be professionally cleaned and kept, depending on the material and how long they were sitting in water. Photos and important documents need special handling too, so those are worth pulling out and dealing with early.

One more thing worth knowing: mold can start growing within 24 to 48 hours in our heat and humidity. So if flooding hits your home, the faster you get things assessed, the more you're likely to save.

If you're dealing with this right now, give us a call. We'll help you figure out what's salvageable.

Ever wonder what actually separates a tropical storm from a hurricane? It comes down to wind speed. A tropical storm has sustained winds between 39 and 73 mph. Once it hits 74 mph, it's officially a hurricane, and from there it gets ranked on a scale up to Category 5.

Here's the part a lot of folks don't realize: even after a storm weakens on its way to Texas, it can still dump a ton of rain. Hurricanes especially tend to bring longer, heavier rain events than tropical storms, along with stronger wind gusts and sometimes spin-off tornadoes.

We're not on the coast, so storm surge isn't something we deal with here, but flooding and wind damage absolutely are. Low-lying areas near creeks and rivers can rise fast during a sustained rain event, so it's worth knowing your property's flood risk before the next system rolls through.

If your home takes on water after a storm, don't wait it out. Give us a call, we're here to help.

Found mold and thinking about handling it yourself? We get the instinct, but mold removal is trickier than a bottle of bleach and a scrub brush. 🧽

Disturbing mold without proper containment releases spores into the air, which can spread the problem to rooms that were never affected before. Breathing those spores in can trigger allergies and respiratory issues, especially for anyone with asthma or a weakened immune system. And here's the thing: surface cleaners might get rid of visible staining, but mold often grows deep into drywall, wood, and other materials that household products just can't reach. Left alone, it also weakens the structure it's growing on.

Dealing with mold in your home? Professional remediation uses containment and the right equipment to get it at the source, not just the surface, so it doesn't come right back. Our team handles the inspection, containment, and removal so you're not putting your health on the line trying to DIY it.

After a house fire, it's hard to know what your insurance actually covers, and that confusion can slow everything down right when you need answers fast.

Here's the quick breakdown: dwelling coverage handles repairs to the structure itself, from the roof to the flooring. If the fire reaches a detached garage or shed, other structures coverage usually applies there too. Personal property coverage helps replace what was damaged, and if your home isn't safe to live in during repairs, many policies cover hotel stays and meals in the meantime.

What's usually NOT covered? Damage from neglect, normal wear and tear, or anything intentional.

Dealing with fire damage? We're here to help you make sense of it all before you file a claim. Our team works directly with insurance companies to coordinate paperwork and get things moving, so you're not sorting through this alone.🔥

Ever wonder what actually happens after water damage hits your walls?

It's more than just patching a stain and calling it done. When our team gets to a job, the first thing we do is figure out exactly how far the moisture has traveled through the wall, because water has a sneaky way of spreading further than what you can see.

If drywall has soaked up too much to dry out safely, we remove it carefully, taking out only what truly needs to go. From there, we bring in professional grade air movers and dehumidifiers to dry everything out completely, since any moisture left behind is basically an invitation for mold.

Once the area is fully dry, we sanitize it to take care of bacteria and odor. The last step is rebuilding: new drywall, taping, mudding, and matching the texture so it blends right in with the rest of your walls like nothing ever happened.

It's a process built on patience, not shortcuts, because doing it right the first time is what actually protects your home long term.

Dealing with water damage in your home is stressful enough without wondering what happens next. Here's a quick breakdown of what our process actually looks like once we arrive.

First, we inspect the damage to figure out exactly what we're dealing with and where the water is coming from. From there, extraction starts immediately, pulling out standing water with industrial pumps and vacuums, because the longer water sits, the more damage it causes.

Next comes drying. We bring in air movers and dehumidifiers and check moisture levels every day until things are truly dry, not just dry to the touch. Once that's confirmed, we sanitize the space to prevent mold and take care of any lingering odor.

The last step is restoration, repairing or replacing whatever didn't make it through, so your home feels like home again.

Knowing what to expect at each stage can make a hard situation feel a little more manageable.
