How does architecture make a team want to come into the office?

That was the question we set out to answer for Motivate, a high-profile ad and media company that needed a workspace as energetic and flexible as the work happening inside it. The solution: open layouts that flex with the day, energy embedded into the materials, and spaces that shift between creative collaboration and focused work.

Workplace design for creative industries is its own discipline. The architecture has to motivate the team, not just house them.

Countywide Mechanical Systems, Office Project

Designing an office for a mechanical contractor is a particular kind of brief: the space has to honor the trade, give the office team a place they are proud of, and balance shop-floor functionality with a professional client-facing identity.

For Countywide Mechanical Systems, the result is a 23,000 sq ft office that speaks to their work in HVAC, plumbing, and ongoing commercial service, while creating an environment that feels like a headquarters, not a warehouse with desks.

What made this project particularly notable was the partnership. As TSA Construction shared: "While working with Architectural Concepts on the Countywide Mechanical Systems office project, TSA Construction was very appreciative of their professionalism, communication, and attention to detail. Margit and her team always ensured a quick response to submittals, which assisted in keeping the project moving forward."

Golden Road Brewing

When a Los Angeles-based brewery wanted to create the open-air brewpub that would set the standard for every location to follow, they came to ACI.

Working in partnership with landscape firm Schmidt Design Group, we designed the first in a series of open-air brewpubs that turned a defunct parking lot into a destination. Shipping containers became the architectural shells, housing the kitchen and brew house. Bold graphics wrapped the containers. Signature trees and overhead market lights shaped the gathering space. Citrus trees were planted on purpose, to pair fresh fruit with fresh beer.

Processing shell-structure containers was a challenge for building officials. The community's response made it worth every conversation. Kid- and dog-friendly, with games and gathering spaces for every part of a long afternoon.

This is what creative problem-solving looks like when the brief asks for something new.

The warmth and abundance of late August, brought indoors. That was the whole brief for this month's board.
Summer Harvest Home is our material palette for the season: deep glossy green tile, aged brass, woven cane, natural wood and marble, layered with a botanical print, green stripe, terracotta, yellow and a plum accent.
Each piece earns its place. Together they make a space that feels collected over time rather than specified in an afternoon, warm and easy to walk into.
A board like this comes before every project, long before a single finish is selected.

As an expansion of the San Diego Wine & Culinary Event Center, this new space evokes the serenity of a garden: stone-effect floors, tiled walls, a water feature, and bamboo walls that inspire calm and connection.

The result is an environment designed not only to complement the center's offerings, but to enrich every event with a space that invites pause, inspiration, and conviviality.

Walgreens, From pharmacies to urban landmarks

A pharmacy is rarely the building people remember on a block. We worked to change that.

Our work with the Walgreens chain took us through a wide range of projects:

Architectural replicas of an Art Deco theater
Structural renovations of existing buildings
Feasibility studies for new locations
Transformations of deteriorating shopping centers into revitalized spaces

Each project had a common goal: turning a national retail prototype into a property that strengthens the brand and adds value to its neighborhood.

A retail project is not just about hitting a prototype. It is about creating spaces that reinforce identity and earn their place on the corner.
