Solar energy has become the most cost-effective source of new power generation in the United States, yet one major obstacle continues to slow its growth: permitting.

T1 Energy CEO Dan Barcelo recently highlighted that lengthy permitting processes remain a significant challenge for solar manufacturing and project deployment across the country. From raw material extraction and processing to project approvals and grid interconnections, complex regulations often lead to delays, increased costs, and uncertainty for developers.

As incentives and tax-credit support evolve, improving permitting efficiency will become even more critical for maintaining solar industry momentum. Streamlined approval processes can help accelerate project timelines, reduce development costs, strengthen domestic manufacturing, and support energy security goals.

The rapid growth of solar markets in states like Texas demonstrates what is possible when policies encourage faster deployment while maintaining necessary standards.

If the U.S. aims to expand renewable energy at scale, permitting reform may be one of the most impactful steps forward.

As global demand for clean energy continues to grow, strategic partnerships between technology leaders and renewable energy developers are accelerating the energy transition.

RWE and Meta have signed a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for the 298 MWAC Rabbit’s Foot Solar project in Northeast Texas. Once operational by the end of 2027, the project will help power Meta’s expanding data center operations while strengthening the Texas grid with new renewable energy capacity.

This latest agreement expands the collaboration between the two companies to an impressive 872 MW of contracted solar capacity over the past two years. Beyond delivering clean electricity, the project is expected to create around 200 local construction jobs and generate more than $50 million in long-term tax revenue, supporting schools, technical education, emergency services, and infrastructure improvements across Bowie County.

Projects like these demonstrate how solar energy can drive economic growth, energy security, and sustainability simultaneously.

India’s solar manufacturing sector is taking another significant step forward. Avaada Group is set to begin solar cell production at its Nagpur facility next month, creating what is expected to be India’s largest solar cell manufacturing plant with a capacity of 6,000 MW.

The development is important because it strengthens domestic solar manufacturing and reduces dependence on imported solar cells. The facility already has 7,000 MW of solar module manufacturing capacity, and Avaada plans to integrate the complete value chain—from polysilicon, ingots, and wafers to cells and modules—over the coming year.

The company is also exploring solar glass manufacturing, further supporting localization of critical solar components. Alongside this, Avaada aims to introduce higher-efficiency solar modules ranging from 740W to 800W, enabling greater energy generation from smaller land footprints.

As India accelerates its clean energy transition, investments in end-to-end solar manufacturing will play a crucial role in strengthening energy security, boosting innovation, and supporting long-term renewable energy growth.

Nagpur: Renewable energy firm Avaada Group is set to commence solar cell manufacturing at its Nagpur facility by next month. The plant, with a production capacity equivalent to generating 6,000MW of power, will be the largest of its kind in India, said company's chairman Vineet Mittal.

Higher education continues to demonstrate how renewable energy can transform institutional sustainability.

Brigham Young University–Hawaii is advancing toward a remarkable milestone with Phase 2 of its University Solar Project, a development expected to meet 100% of the campus’s electricity needs through solar energy. The expansion will also provide renewable power support to the neighboring Polynesian Cultural Center and the Laie Hawaii Temple.

The new phase includes ground-mounted solar arrays, additional solar parking canopies, and an energy storage system capable of delivering up to five days of emergency backup power for critical services. This builds on Phase 1, completed in 2022, which added rooftop solar installations, solar carports, and 7 MWh of battery storage, covering 39% of the university’s energy demand.

Projects like this highlight the growing role of solar-plus-storage solutions in creating resilient, self-sustaining campuses while accelerating the transition to a cleaner energy future.

🌞 A major milestone for solar energy in the United States!

For the first time in history, solar power generated more electricity than coal, according to a new report from Ember. In May, solar accounted for 12.8% of U.S. electricity generation, surpassing coal at 12.2%.

The achievement highlights the remarkable growth of solar energy over the past five years. Solar's contribution has more than doubled from 5.4%, while coal's share continues to decline. What was once considered a niche energy source has now become the third-largest and fastest-growing source of electricity in the country.

Another encouraging development is that renewable energy sources combined have also surpassed natural gas generation for the first time this year, signaling a broader shift toward cleaner energy solutions.

As energy demand continues to rise, solar power is proving its ability to deliver reliable, scalable, and sustainable electricity for the future.

The United States hit a clean energy milestone last month as the amount of electricity generated through solar power topped what was made by coal for the first time ever.

India’s renewable energy journey has reached another remarkable milestone.

The country’s floating solar photovoltaic (PV) potential has now been assessed at more than 102 GWp, taking India’s total estimated solar energy potential to an impressive 3,445 GWp. This development highlights the immense opportunity that reservoirs, lakes, and other water bodies offer for clean power generation without competing for valuable land resources.

Floating solar is emerging as a smart solution that combines efficient land use, sustainable energy production, and support for long-term energy security. To accelerate deployment, the government is also working on a dedicated scheme to promote floating solar projects across the nation.

India’s solar growth continues to be extraordinary, with installed solar capacity increasing from just 2.8 GW in 2014 to 155 GW today. As innovation, manufacturing, and policy support continue to strengthen, the future of solar energy in India looks brighter than ever.

India’s floating solar PV potential exceeds 102 GWp, pushing total solar energy potential to 3,445 GWp. Government plans dedicated scheme to boost renewable energy deployment.

What makes large-scale solar projects successful? The answer is increasingly clear: meaningful community benefits.

A new nationwide survey of nearly 5,200 rural Americans across 47 states found that support for large-scale solar projects rises significantly when local communities see tangible value. Projects that help reduce electricity bills received the strongest support, while investments in schools, healthcare initiatives, affordable housing, and direct community funding also improved public acceptance.

The research also highlighted the growing appeal of agrivoltaics. Solar projects that incorporate native vegetation, farming, or livestock grazing alongside clean energy generation earned substantially higher favorability ratings. Notably, these approaches can even soften opposition among residents concerned about farmland preservation.

The findings reinforce an important lesson for the solar industry: community engagement, local economic benefits, and innovative land-use practices are essential for accelerating renewable energy deployment.

Big news is brewing at Staten Solar! 🚀 We have a major project in the pipeline that perfectly aligns with a massive shift happening in the industry right now—announcement coming soon. Stay tuned!

As India’s energy demand continues to rise, renewable energy and green hydrogen are emerging as powerful drivers of a cleaner, more secure future.

At the Global Hydrogen & Renewable Energy Summit 2025, former MNRE Secretary Bhupinder Singh Bhalla highlighted how India’s rapid expansion of solar, wind, and other renewable energy projects is strengthening the nation’s path toward sustainable growth. With ambitious non-fossil energy targets for 2030, continued investments in generation, transmission, and grid infrastructure will be critical to maintaining momentum.

The summit also underscored the growing importance of green hydrogen, particularly for hard-to-abate sectors such as steel, fertilizers, shipping, and heavy transport. Supported by the National Green Hydrogen Mission, India is building a robust ecosystem for hydrogen production, innovation, and deployment.

With strong policy support, investment, and collaboration, renewable energy and green hydrogen can play a transformative role in advancing India’s clean energy ambitions and long-term energy security.

The Global Hydrogen & Renewable Energy Summit 2025, held on March 12–13, 2025 in Kochi, Kerala, brought together policymakers, energy experts, industry leaders, investors, and researchers to discuss the future of clean energy and sustainable development.
