Did you know that electric cars have been around longer than you might think?

In fact, while several presidents have been drivers of electric vehicles, one of the earliest EV enthusiasts was none other than the 34th U.S. President, Dwight "Ike" D. Eisenhower.
Long before he became one of the most iconic generals of the 20th century, Eisenhower drove an early electric car that belonged to his in-laws.

In 1914, Eisenhower's in-laws purchased a Rauch & Lang vehicle for a whopping $4,300 (equivalent to about $135,000 today!) that had a top speed of 13 mph, could be driven from either the front or back seat, and boasted an impressive 100-mile range.

Eisenhower was not just a great general and president—he was also an early advocate for electric vehicles!
