What's the day after Thanksgiving called? If you're a plumber, you may know it as "Brown Friday." That's the day plumbing calls go up approximately 50% over regular business days due to an excess of FOG clogs - or fats, oils and grease that get tossed down people's sink drains during cooking or once the clean-up begins.
YOU can avoid FOG clogs, and costly plumbing repairs, by following these quick tips:
1. Can it! Pour cooled fats, oil and grease into a can, then cover and freeze it. When full, toss the can into your trash.
2. Wipe it! Use a paper towel to wipe out excess grease or oil from pots or pans before washing them.
3. Strain it! Use a household sink strainer to catch food remnants, then throw them into the trash.
4. Scrap it! Consider composting veggie scraps and peelings.
Toss meat and poultry skin into the trash. Don't put them down the drain.
