These pictures are from a bad situation that could of been a lot worse. The homeowner hired an “Electrician” to add a T.V. receptacle for a wall mount. The correct size wire was NOT used for the amount of amps that the breaker allowed, and this was the result. The homeowner fell to sleep with a space heater on, and only, after a couple of hours, the wire got hot enough to cause the melting and burning you see here. The wire was only one size smaller than what is required by code, but certain size wires are only rated to take a certain amount of amps. The home owners wife was asleep on the other side of the wall, and luckily, woke up to the smell of smoke. This happened because of negligence, and should not of happened at all. Please hire a professional!

When I first arrived to this job, I wasn’t sure if this was a plumbing issue or an electrical issue. Yes, that is water running out of the bottom of the main service, and No, that is NOT supposed to happen. This is the first time I have ever come across an issue like this, but if you do experience it, call your power company first, and they should come out, pop the meter, and take a look at it for free.

Wire gets damaged all the time, and in numberous ways. Sometimes, even animals will damage electrical wire in your household. This actually happens more than one would think. Eventually, these situations can become major safety issues and/or fire hazards. If you are experiencing breakers tripping, odd burning smells, or anything in that nature, please address the issue immediately. Electrical issues are like tooth aches; they only get worse over time.

Metal Halide bulbs are becoming a thing of the past. To get these Metal Halide bulbs to work, capacitors are used to bump up voltage to account for the watts that the bulbs are using. When upgrading to an LED, not only will you cut the wattage in half, the LED will also put off a lot more lumens (the brightness). The new LED bulb in these pictures uses a fifth of the wattage while producing twice the lumens of the old bulb. This is a “corn cob” style LED, and is what you’d want to use in this kind of light fixture.

Some issues don’t happen right away. This is a disconnect that was being used in a restaurant for their AC, and was working fine for years. The manager got concerned when the AC wasn’t working properly, and they could smell a “weird electrical smell” coming from the vicinity of the unit. I found the disconnect melted like this, with power still being supplied to it. This issue was on it’s way to causing a lot of damages, and was avoided because the restaurant manager took action as soon as they noticed a problem.

There is so much that is hidden behind the walls in our homes, things like this happen all the time. Luckily this was found before any major issue occurred, or anyone was seriously injured. If you notice anything strange going on with any of your electrical equipment, especially after getting work done on your home, don’t put off having it investigated. These are the kind of issues that can cause house fires.

This was a job where the client had a recess can over the sink in their island. They wanted to upgrade the kitchen and add some features to it, and decided that a hanging pendant would look really good over the island. They were right. Just a few Edison bulbs, upgrade the switch to a dimmer, and that would be the final touch.

Adding festoon lighing to the outside of your house can not only provide more light for your needs, but can add a creative look to the landscape of your property. Get as creative as you like with how you want to design your lighting schedule. You can put them on a switch to give you complete control, and the bulbs are compatible with dimmers, so you can adjust how bright you want them to be as well.

These photos were taken at a house that was struck by lightning. You can see where the arching occurred in each of the pictures. The thermostat was actually blown off the wall, and across the room. The cooktop would light, but the digital board was completely fried. Other appliances that were damaged and not pictured were; toaster oven, coffee maker, septic pump, and other small appliances that were plugged in when the house was hit. The neighbors to both sides also had multiple appliances that were damaged by the strike.
