A beautiful kitchen by day, a whole new experience by evening. ✨

Natural stone already brings so much character to a space, but with the right lighting, it can become an even more stunning design feature.

By incorporating LED backlighting into translucent stone, the natural patterns and movement within the material are illuminated, adding warmth, depth, and a unique touch to the kitchen.

It's the thoughtful details that make a design truly stand out. 🤍

Matching your countertop and backsplash can create a beautiful, seamless look—but when choosing between slab and tile, aesthetics aren’t the only thing to consider.

While tile may initially seem like the more budget-friendly option, the material is only part of the cost. Once you factor in installation and labor, the difference between tile and an additional slab may be smaller than expected.

The right choice comes down to your design goals, material selection, and overall project budget—which is why it’s worth pricing out both options before making your decision.

Beautiful design starts with informed decisions. ✨

Before you choose a backsplash, there are a lot of other decisions to consider.

How will it work with the countertops? The cabinetry? The other finishes throughout the kitchen? And will everything still feel cohesive once it’s installed?

An interior designer can help you look beyond one selection at a time and guide you through the decisions that bring the entire space together.

Because you shouldn’t have to figure out every detail on your own.

A beautiful kitchen is only part of the equation. The real question is: does it work for the people living in it?

For this home, Penny chose to maximize concealed, full-height cabinetry—not simply to add more storage, but because it made sense for how the homeowners would actually use their kitchen day to day.

What needs to be within reach? What can be tucked away? How do they cook, gather, and move through the space?

Those decisions shape the design just as much as the finishes do.
Your home should be designed around the way you live.

The transformation is always worth trusting the process for. From the work happening behind the scenes to the final details coming together, every stage plays a part in creating a space that feels completely renewed.

And this one turned out beautifully! 🤍

Lighting isn’t only about making a space brighter, it’s part of what brings the entire design together. ✨

Throughout this San Mateo home, each lighting choice was thoughtfully incorporated to support how the space functions, highlight key details, and create the right atmosphere from room to room.

From statement fixtures to subtle task lighting, every layer plays a role in the finished design.

Which lighting detail catches your eye?

Before starting an interior design project, it’s easy to jump straight to colors, furniture, and finishes—but at Elements in Design, we like to start with how you actually live in the space.

What isn’t working right now? How do you want the space to feel? And what needs to function better?

Answering these questions helps create a space that isn’t just beautiful, but thoughtful, functional, and designed around you.

✨ Save these 3 questions for your next home project. And when you’re ready to get started, give us a call!

One solution that worked beautifully in my own home was layering function with flexibility.

I wanted sun protection for the sliding doors and transom window without draperies getting in the way, so I added roller shades for practical light control and stationary sheer panels to soften the room. Behind the sheers, I incorporated a layer of orange for warmth—and when I’m ready for a new color, it can easily be changed!

It’s a simple idea homeowners can use to create a softer, more finished look without sacrificing function. Would you try this in your home? Save this idea for your next design project!

A kitchen reimagined for brighter, more connected living. ✨

Thoughtful space planning transformed this room into a welcoming place to cook, gather, and entertain. Expanded storage, a generous central island, statement lighting, and professional-style appliances bring beauty and function together—while crisp cabinetry and richly veined stone give the space a fresh, timeless character.

Every detail was considered around how the homeowners wanted to live in their new kitchen.
