WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?!
Sometimes you peel back a roof and uncover something that makes you wonder... WHO thought this was a good idea?!
During a recent roof tear-off, our crew discovered that someone had CUT THROUGH A ROOF RAFTER to make room for a pipe.
Yes, you read that correctly. Instead of rerouting the pipe, they cut through a structural component of the roof.
Why is this such a BIG deal?
Rafters are structural. They help support the weight of your roof and transfer that load to the rest of the building. Cutting through one without an engineered solution can compromise its ability to do its job.
Structural integrity matters. A weakened rafter can contribute to sagging, movement, and other problems over time.
Convenience should NEVER come before safety. Proper planning, rerouting, or an appropriately designed structural modification could have prevented this situation.
And here's the scary part: This was completely hidden beneath the old roofing materials. The homeowner likely had no idea it was there.
A new roof is about more than just new shingles.
