From Hazardous & Weed-Filled to a Backyard Oasis! 🌿✨

A client recently bought a home with an unwelcoming, unusable yard filled with weeds, junk, and major drainage issues. We came in and completely transformed the space into a functional, beautiful outdoor patio built to handle the elements for years to come.

Key Design & Engineering Details:
Premium Materials: Catalina Grana pavers in Riviera accented with a bold Midnight 6x9 border.
Smart Drainage: Integrated a centered dry well system to capture patio runoff and roof downspout water, keeping it away from the home foundation.

Rock-Solid Base: Excavated nearly 30 tons of dirt and compacted an 8-inch base layer to prevent settling in sandy native soil.

Our 7-Step Process:

1. Excavation & clearing (~30 tons of dirt hauled away)

2. Custom dry well & drainage infrastructure setup

3. 8+ inches of base rock compacted over sandy soil

4. Precision grading for proper water flow

5. Setting the sand basin & laying pavers

6. Polymeric sand joint stabilization & compaction

7. Final client walkthrough

Safety comes first at Big Creek Lumber. Today we celebrated our logging and forestry teams at a safety BBQ.

We had good food, and time to recognize the hard work these crews do every day. Thank you for continuing to look out for one another and making safety a priority in the woods.

We are making incredible progress out in Carmel Valley, CA!

🏡 This stunning property is undergoing a complete transformation, inside and out. So far, we have completed the structural pillars and custom seating bench.

Next up, we are installing the pillar caps, custom lighting, and safety railings, followed by the client’s new fire pit. As always, we can’t wait to show you the final reveal of this beautiful home! ✨

Fridays are for fantastic looking yards. 🌿

We’re bringing this Salinas project back because it’s still one of our favorite outdoor spaces we’ve completed.

From the curved walkways and river rock to the colorful planting and wide-open lawn, every part of this landscape was designed to work together and create a space that feels open, inviting, and complete.

A year later, we still love looking back at this one.
