Why a Chimney Cricket Matters

A chimney is one of the most vulnerable areas of a roof because it interrupts the natural flow of water & is very easy to miss.

In this project, we installed a properly constructed chimney cricket behind the chimney. The cricket extends the roof’s drainage profile and creates a raised, sloped surface that directs water around the chimney instead of allowing it to collect and back up against the flashing.

This helps in a few ways:

Redirect rainwater away from the chimney
Reduce water buildup and pooling
Improve drainage around the chimney flashing
Minimize the risk of leaks and moisture intrusion
Provide a more durable, long-term roofing solution

Proper flashing is important, but proper water management is even better. A well-designed chimney cricket works with the roof rather than simply trying to seal water out.

Is METAL ventilation on a SHINGLE roof acceptable?

Definitely NOT!
I was shocked to see this on such a nice looking roof, other wise.

THE ISSUES??

❌ Kills attic ventilation

❌ Doesnt seal properly on the roof

❌ Can allow wind driven rain in
