How Often Should You Really Change Your Air Filter

Everyone says change your filter regularly, but nobody agrees on what that actually means. The real answer depends on a few things going on in your home.

Here is a quick guide:

- Basic 1 inch filters - every 30 to 60 days
- Pleated 4 to 5 inch filters - every 6 to 12 months
- Homes with pets - check monthly
- Homes with allergies - swap every 30 days
- Vacation homes - every 90 days minimum

A dirty filter chokes airflow, freezes coils, and makes your system work harder than it needs to. It is the cheapest maintenance task with the biggest payoff.

Call (407) 789-4000 to book HVAC service if your system is struggling to keep up.

The Hidden Reason Your Bedroom Is Always Warmer

If one bedroom is always warmer than the rest of the house, your thermostat is not the problem. The real issue is usually hiding in your ductwork or the room itself.

Bedrooms at the end of a duct run get less airflow by default. Add in west-facing windows, attic heat above the ceiling, or a closed door blocking return air, and that room turns into a hot box no matter how low you set the thermostat.

Sometimes the fix is a duct adjustment or a damper rebalance. Other times it is sealing leaks or adding a return vent. Either way, you don't have to just live with it.

Call (407) 789-4000 to get your ductwork checked and even out the temperature in your home.

Mini Split Vs Central AC For Florida Garages

Cooling a Florida garage is tricky. Central AC was not really designed for it, and most homeowners don't want to extend ductwork into a hot, humid space. That is where mini splits shine.

Here is how they compare:

- Mini splits cool individual zones without ducts
- Central AC struggles to handle garage heat loads
- Mini splits handle humidity better in detached spaces
- Extending central ducts can throw off whole-home balance
- Mini splits are quieter and more efficient for single rooms

For garages, workshops, and bonus rooms, a mini split usually wins on comfort and efficiency.

Call (407) 789-4000 to see if a mini split is the right fit for your space.

How To Keep Your AC From Quitting In A Heat Wave

Florida heat waves push AC systems to their limit, and the units that quit are usually the ones that were already struggling. A little prep work goes a long way before temps climb into the high 90s.

Start by changing your filter and clearing any debris around the outdoor condenser. Give it room to breathe. Inside, make sure your vents are open and your thermostat is set to a realistic temperature, not 68.

If your system is already making weird noises or short cycling, do not wait it out. Small issues turn into full breakdowns fast when the unit is running 14 hours a day.

Call (407) 789-4000 to schedule AC service before the next heat wave hits.

Why Your AC Runs All Day But The House Still Feels Hot

If your AC never seems to shut off but the house still feels warm, something is off. A healthy system should cycle on and off, not run nonstop while you sweat on the couch.

Here are a few common reasons this happens:

- Low refrigerant from a slow leak
- Dirty coils that can't release heat properly
- An undersized or aging system
- Leaky ductwork pulling in hot attic air
- A thermostat reading the wrong temperature

Running constantly puts serious wear on your unit and drives your power bill up fast. Getting it diagnosed early can save the compressor from an expensive failure later.

Call (407) 789-4000 to book AC service and get your home cooling like it should.

The Truth About Closing Vents In Unused Rooms

A lot of homeowners think closing vents in spare rooms will save money on cooling. It sounds smart, but it actually works against your AC system and can cost you more in the long run.

When you close vents, pressure builds up inside your ductwork. That extra pressure forces your blower to work harder, which wears down components faster and can even cause duct leaks behind your walls.

Your system was sized to cool the whole house. Closing off rooms throws off the balance and can lead to uneven temperatures, frozen coils, and higher energy bills. Keeping vents open is almost always the better move.

Call (407) 789-4000 to schedule AC service and keep your system running the way it was built to.
