Weak AC cooling can sometimes start with a bad capacitor. In this Irvine, CA service call, we inspected a 7-year-old Bryant HVAC system where the condenser fan was slow to start and struggled to reach full speed

Testing revealed the 45+5 µF capacitor was reading below its rated capacity, with the fan side measuring only 0.6 µF instead of 5 µF. We replaced the faulty capacitor with the correct 45+5 µF replacement and added a compressor saver.

After the repair, the condenser fan started immediately and spun at the proper speed.

Proper testing helps identify electrical issues before they lead to bigger HVAC problems. 🔧❄️

We installed a new AC Pro Z-Series heat pump system in Tustin, CA, replacing an old gas furnace and aging condenser with a more efficient heating and cooling solution.

In this video, we show the complete installation, including the new indoor air handler, outdoor heat pump condenser, high-efficiency filter cabinet, sealed return cavity, and capped gas and flue lines.

Here's what we installed:

The old system had refrigerant leakage issues, including a rusted and oily refrigerant line. The customer had previously paid for refrigerant recharging, but the system only lasted a few days before losing cooling again.

With the new heat pump system, the customer now has reliable heating and cooling year-round, improved airflow, and a cleaner, more efficient setup.

I installed this HVAC system about 9 years ago, and today I’m showing why it's important to test and replace a weak capacitor even if the air conditioner still starts and runs.

In this video, we compare the system's performance before and after replacing the capacitor by measuring both the starting amperage and running amperage.

Here's what we found:
✅ Starting amperage before replacement: 142 amps
✅ Running amperage before replacement: 19 amps
✅ Original capacitor: 70 + 7.5 µF
✅ Compressor side measured only 31.74 µF (rated 70 µF)
✅ Fan side measured 6.98 µF (rated 7.5 µF)
✅ Running amperage after installing a new capacitor: 17 amps

Although the starting amperage stayed about the same, the running amperage dropped by approximately 2 amps. A weak capacitor can cause your HVAC system to work harder than necessary, and replacing it may improve efficiency and help reduce energy consumption.

A homeowner in Tustin, California, contacted us because their 2018 Lennox air conditioning system wasn't cooling properly. Our inspection revealed that the system was low on refrigerant.
After checking the outdoor unit and finding no visible oil marks, we moved indoors to inspect the evaporator coil. That's where we found the problem—a refrigerant leak hidden between the coil fins. We also found an oily drain pan, one of the first signs of an evaporator coil leak.
