Crimes Against Horticulture: When Bad Taste Meets Power Tools

Crimes Against Horticulture: When Bad Taste Meets Power Tools I've been obsessed with the heinous acts perpetrated against trees, shrubs, and other growies. This page create by Billy Goodnick, Landscape Architect

People Perpetrating Pointless Pruning On Peaceful Plants Founder: Billy Goodnick, landscape architect, educator and author of "Yards: Turn Any Outdoor Space Into the Garden of Your Dreams" - Founded February 2011 I think it's very instructional - and lots more fun - to learn by showing bad examples, than to look at all the luscious color coffeetable garden books for a clue. My hope is that all of you will find, share, and root out the crimes that surround us.

This just in from Scott Cline, Charlotte North Carolina!

Not only did these proud folks pay handsomely for their Green Minion Bush - they splurged on the Minion Extendo-Topper! That’s what we at CAH call real commitment!

Evidently, this Long Island company founder and my family experienced an evolutionary parting a few thousand centuries ago. THIS is them advertising this cluster f # as their best work. (BTW: Clearly, that corkscrew is intended to be inserted somewhere. Any theories?)

A lesson about “PMS” or Predictable Mature Size (sorry for the trigger, ladies).

As post-WWII suburban subdivisions sprang up in California the go-to plants were all forms of juniper. Easy to propagate for commercial growers, they flooded the local nurseries.

That said, even at my first retail sales nursery gig, I was horrified to hear my manager directing customers to plant Tam Junipers (Juniperus sabina tamariscifolia) as “ground covers” in double rows in five-foot wide parking strips. Tams predictably grow about 16 inches high (so far so good) by FIFTEEN FEET ACROSS!!!

Hence this lovely example of dead sticks, green icing and endless work as the spent decades piling up on each other.

Thank you for attending my TED Talk!
