There is no such thing as, "just add a little refrigerant".
If your not checking pressures, super heat, subcooling, delta T, and amps,, your doing it wrong.

This is an inside look at a unit that is only 2 years old.
The mold and mildew is not a result of poor housekeeping or dirty occupants, it is a result of poor airflow in the system.
Imagine what it will look like in 5 years.

I have to tell ya folks.
Not only are Carrier parts insanely over priced and over proprietary, the difficulty of contracrors to obtain these parts is extremely difficult.
All of this equals one thing. YOUPAY MORE!!!

Unfortunately, until mandatory mask regulations are lifted. All customers located within Harris County will be required to pay a health risk surcharge of $250.⁰⁰ in addition to all standard charges.
The publicized High number of Coronavirus cases as well as the documented health risks associated with the wearing of facemasks makes this a necessity.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

If your spring checkup dosent include the service tech. disassembling your unit, cleaning it inside and out, checking refrigerant levels, amperage draws, superheat, subcooling, and Delta T, than you haven't had a spring checkup.
Trust me, the $39.95 guy is not going to do this.

I've heard concerns from several customers, that they hope their equipment dosent end up on one of my Facebook posts.
Don't worry folks, I never give out names or any identifying information.
And I never do it to make you feel bad.
The main thing I hope you take away from the pictures I post, is that everyone's in the same boat when it comes to your A/C equipment.
No matter if you live in the finest gated community in the Woodlands, or a trailer house in Liverpool, all A/C equipment is subject to the same conditions. And usually, those conditions are caused or created by some A/C guy.
So don't feel bad if you know it's your equipment that appears in one of my posts.
Believe me, no matter how bad it is, I've probably seen much worse.

Last month I did a checkup and service on two ac systems, a walk in freezer, and a walk in cooler.
The guy said they hadn't been run in about a year and he wanted them checked before he started uesing them.
Excellent idea!
Only had some small items to take care of. A rusty liquid line filter, that he said to go ahead and change, great Idea!! And a bad defrost terminator on the freezer. All fixed cleaned up and running properly. 😀
He called today and said his walk in freezer was not working.
I got there and found that, on instructions from the health department, he had closed in everything above the top of the freezer and cooler. (See Photos)
Needless to say, with two condensing units on top of these coolers, it was a LITTLE HOT up there.
So, the high pressure switch is blown out on the freezer condensor, luckily it failed to the open position, and I haven't checked if any damage was done to the 5 ton AC system that the returne in this area leads to.
With direct expansion refrigeration, it's ALL ABOUT AIR FLOW!!!!!!
None of this will work this way!!!

And then there are days like today, when you work on systems that have been, less than well maintained.
Folks, take at least as good of care of your A/C system as you do your car.
It works really hard for you.
And, it usually costs more to operate per month than your car.
Show it a little care and love, and it will take much better care of you.

News Flash! Cost of R-22 is going UP!
Thanks to the diligent work of State, National, and, International governing organizations, the cost of your R-22, from A/C Doctor, will now be,,,,,$85 per pound.
Yes, $5.32 per ounce.
But look at the bright side. That's still $1242 less than an ounce of Gold.
And it's only Half of what some other companies are charging.
What are my alternatives you may ask?????
After much research and investigation it has been decided that R-422D, at $27 per pound, is your best alternative.
Keep in mind, that all R-22 will have to be removed from the system before R-422D can be added.
Another alternative???
Change out all of your existing equipment, at a cost of anywhere between 6 to 10 thousand dollars, (depending on size and seer rating), so that you can use the Mandated, Interim, R-410A refrigerant, that only costs $15 per pound.
Don't blame your A/C guy folks.
It's all those governing organizations that are looking out for YOUR Best interist.

Got to spend some time with an old friend this morning. A 21 year old Lennox true 2 speed.
Installed 21 years ago this July, the customer requested 2 weeks after installation, that the system be wired to run on high speed ONLY.
So much for the savings of running in low speed.
Anyway, I gave her a bath and a physical, and she should be good for another hot Texas summer.
