So the deal with this was the existing landing and stairs were completely rotted out. They were dangerous. Howard Kernes and I demoed the whole thing and began again, in a somewhat different style than what was there. There were so many repairs to the old landing and posts that I couldn't even figure out what was original.

Also, the old structure left almost no room to pass, and while I did create a narrow pathway, because of the bay window, I had to have the stairs out far enough to be usable and wide enough for comfort. My client wanted the lattice. I would have preferred square pattern lattice but none was available at Home Depot. Go figure. Anyhow, only I cared.

As for using Home Depot for a lot of the lumber (but not all of it), all I can say is the cost of redwood has doubled in the last year or so and my usual lumberyard was selling it at triple the cost that HD was selling it for, so I really had no choice. I don't like shopping at Home Depot for lumber unless it's for redwood.

The challenge here was to build to the existing crown molding, twice! The old cabinets were demoed for a new floor and base but the crown had to stay because it would have been nearly impossible to match what was up there. I really don't know why the old bookcases were removed, but now it's as if it never happened. These will be painted white.

This is a pretty simple carport locker. The funny thing about this job is 30 years ago, I built most of the lockers in this condo complex. It was a total coincidence that I was asked to quote this job. So really, I had to copy what I had done three decades ago. Nice that the old ones are still up. Also, this new one was built using better materials and hardware because, well... 30 years more experience. :-)
