Cabling can be very effective for preventing failure on any tree, but only if it’s done correctly.

We saw this and had to fix it! Clothesline cable wrapped around the tree is a fast way to kill your tree! Nor is it rated for the weight of a tree. Clothesline cable is only rated for a couple hundred pounds, unlike this 3/8 EHS cable thats rated for 15,400 pounds!

Be sure to have a qualified professional install any cabling/bracing hardware on your trees. Sometimes it can cause more harm than good.

This is why you should always hire a professional!

Trees seem docile and harmless, but they can weigh several tons and gravity works surprisingly fast. Arborists make it look effortless with the right equipment.

An elderly gentleman decided to prune his water oak, but it turned out poorly in his favor. He was thrown out of the tree from approximately 15’-20’ and landed on the rough root system. We hope for a speedy recovery! Call an arborist first and you can skip the hospital bills/long recovery. We took care of the trees for him as he recovers.

Tree work is inherently dangerous. Tree workers risk their lives every day. Anyone can have life altering injuries or potentially die working on a tree. Statistically in the United States arborcare has the highest fatality/injury rate.

As a general PSA, if you hire a contractor to work on your trees and they pull out a ladder, tell them to pack it up! If they are not compliant with ANSI Z133.1 standards nor have general liability insurance for aerial work, you can be held liable for any accidents. Hiring an ISA Certified Arborist can avoid any guessing. www.treesaregood.org is a great place to find a certified arborist.

Found some more fuzzy friends! Momma squirrel promptly swooped them to safety. Us arborists know a thing or two about the little tree rats and their behavior.

So you found a baby squirrel? What do you do???

First thing to do- Attempt to reunite with the mother. It’s where the baby belongs and has the best chance at survival. Place them in a box on the ground with some nice soft padding. Near a tree in some shade is preferable. Make sure not to go near the box for some time and keep noise to a minimum. This can take up to 2-4 hours, bring them in if it becomes dark. We got lucky with these guys, she got them in less than 30 minutes!

If you can’t reunite, find a local wildlife rehabilitation center. Wild Heart Ranch is a great first call.

I don’t just speak for the trees, but those who call them home as well!

Fun Squirrel Fact- A group of squirrels is called a “Scurry!”
