The Heat Keepers Icicle Contest has transformed this year! Into ICICLE JARTS, Be afraid, be very afraid! The old time, banned party game is back for all ages. A tournament will be setup. Age groups 14 and under and Over 14. While your enjoying the Woodsmen Exhibition come sign up. We start as soon after the woodsmen as possible. 5 courts of Jarts will be setup. 3 points for each jart in the target, and 1 point for the closest if outside. First to 21 points wins. winners of each match moves on to see who the top Jart throwers of the Carnival will be. Winners of each category win $500 toward an insulation project. Anyone can sign up to have a free home energy assessment. All players receive Icicle Jart stickers, and win just one match and get your choice of HK promo gear. Feel free to bring a big icicle if you have one to display

What a day in Saranac Lake! I was actually surprised and impressed by the turn out for the Icicle Contest Judging . But I shouldve know with the people that make up our community.

This years winner is the Fremante family of Lake Placid! Bringing us an 81" long icicle that would have broken my display rack with how thick it was. That one did not form over night.

Thanks to everyone else who brought in icicles and hung around for the judging.

Also good to have the girls from Climate Smart Communities group come out and promote. We are both on the same page of reducing our fossil fuel use. Happy Carnival

Hi everybody. Our crews are fighting the elements to air-seal, and install cellulose and spray foam insulations across the north country.

In the coming weeks Saranac Lakes Winter Carnival will be happening. A celebration of this special time of year. Our sponsored event will be the Icicle Contest. Actually a catch twenty two because your big icicles might win you a prize, but they are actually costing you heating dollars and comfort.

This image shows that a lack of insulation and air-sealing are melting the snow on the roof, which re-freeze at the Eaves making icicles. Once we know you have this problem we can fix it. Often through state funded programs. All those that participate will get a free home energy assessment.

Please bring an icicle to us at Riverside Park the first Saturday of Winter Carnival by 11:30am to enter and enjoy the Paul Smith's Woodsmens' Show right next to us.

Here we are back in business. Matt, aka "Salty", buttoning up this spray foam job. Saranac Lake's Winter Carnival mobile history center. It will be setup by the ice palace. It got R-19 in the walls and R-25 to the roof deck. Sure to keep visitors comfortable while they learn about the longest running winter carnival in the US.
