An exterior main disconnect for a house that seemed to be "functional". The corrosion inside was NOT visible, it broke when we removed the breaker.
Does this look safe to you?
This is why breakers and panels need to be upgraded periodically.

I don't post much, but I am learning that many electrical devices, receptacles, lights, ceiling fans, etc on Amazon and some even through Home Depot are not legal to install in the US as they do not meet our NEC code of listing. All devices MUST be tested and listed by a recognized laboratory for installation here in the US.
Most recent example is a ceiling fan by Amico lighting. They say ETL listed. It is not. There is a legit Amico Group of Companies in Canada that are ETL listed. However, this is a different company.
This is another reason to hire a licensed professional. Most people, including us licensed professionals do not know these things. But it is our duty to research and know, to help protect customers from scams of this nature.

PSA.
In light of the recent flooding here in Sarasota, there is more work than I can currently handle.
All electrical devices that were submerged need to be replaced.
There are also older houses that, as walls are opened up, whose electrical is not safe and need re-wiring. And there are those who are re-wiring and updating their houses in the process of the clean-up.
So if you are an electrician or know someone who is, and they want to come work in Sarasota for the next foreseeable future, please give them my information and we can see what we can work out to help people get their houses back together as quickly as possible over the next few months.

Hidden fuse boxes. Couldn't figure out why the Range quit. Main panel was outside. Was a blown fuse.
Needless to, there are many other dangers here.
This is a house someone bought "updated". Obviously work was done without permits.
Be careful buying a renovated home in today's market. Too many shady flippers taking advantage of desperate buyers
