Found this while on vacation today. Never swim near a marina with electrical on the docks. These open splices could easily end up in the water. The water does not provide an effective ground path to trip the breaker, so you just get a halo of energized water around the issue.

House hit by lightning? Here is a quick checklist of how to recover.

1. Unplug all lamps, chargers and small appliances. Note if anything appears damaged or discolored.

2. Reset any tripped breakers one at a time while listening and smelling for anything unusual.

3. Test and reset all GFCI receptacles (common failure point).

4. After doing this, plug your items back in one at a time and test for proper function.
