Log and Line Woodworks A journey into fine woodworking.

After ten years of studying and teaching writing and literature all over the world, I am about to undertake a new kind of adventure: the two-year Boatbuilding and Restoration program at IYRS in Newport, Rhode Island. In this space I will document and consider the transition, showcasing both the triumphs and difficulties and maybe even eventually selling a piece of furniture or a small boat or two.

Moving into some new shared shop space at Gardenville Station in San Francisco, where I’ll be doing some furniture projects and maybe offering classes from time to time. The plan is to start small with the new venture and let it build gradually. It’s been nearly a year since I’ve had shop space for my own work. Looking forward to seeing what happens in 2022.

Finished up carpentry on Scirocco the pirate yesterday. New garboards, a keel laminate amidships, new centerboard trunk, new frames, new floor timbers, new sole bearers. It took a lot longer than I estimated at first but I feel like I learned a lot about the actual time involved in a significant repair/restoration project and will continue to get more accurate with estimates with each job. Now it’s time to put the original interior back in and get her in the water.
